A lot of people in N.S have a side gig. Scrap metal, babysitting, reselling online to name a few. Minimum wage employers try to make you work more shifts, longer hours etc. with no benefits or thought given to your life outside of work. The managers often will give your hours to someone else if you do refuse to come in on your day off. The roads, the roads the roads. They are falling apart after years of neglect. Initially, a portion of the tax on gas was supposed to go towards the road maintenance . That didn't happen. The people and beautiful natural surroundings make up for a bit of the drawbacks though.

But if you would like to live in Toronto is the triple in cost, and whatever you make in money half goes to bills, so basically stay the same .

I have lived in NS all my life. You did a great job on this video but one of the biggest concerns in NS in 2023 is the lack of housing and rentals. So mamy people cannot find housing and many are facing homelessness. The cost of renting and buying has skyrocketed. I know people looking for over a year for a rental and still have no place and both work full time. They say within a half hour of a place being listed, the landlord is flooded with requests to view and its unusual to even get a viewing. During the pandemic many people flooded into NS and it is partly the reason we have such a severe housing crisis. I see news articles of international students struggling trying to find housing. Hopefully solutions will be found soon.

Born and raised here. Lived in Alberta for a few years and now live here again. Pre pandemic it was a pretty decent spot. Moderate wages, high taxes and low cost of homes / rents.

Post pandemic wow what do I even say. Extremely over priced just about everything. If I didnt purchase a house pre everything going crazy I'd honestly just leave. The house across the road from me sold in 2019 for $380k and just re sold last year with no changes in 2023 for $900k. Wages are virtually the same so ya you get the drift.

Healthcare haha. Good luck seeing a specialist or getting appointments. You'll be waiting an extended period of time without a doubt.

Its a beautiful place dont get me wrong but people already struggled here before everything went nuts. Now everythings out of hand. Growing up it was strange to see a handful of homeless people in a year but there's literally hundreds of them everywhere now living in tents and a good chunk of those people work 40 hrs a week. Pure insanity.

I think it is a good place to retire e.g. when you moved to Alberta and made great money and now come back with a nice pension (boomers). Or just retiring from teaching in Nova Scotia. But if you are young and want to live in Nova Scotia and raise a family, you better be a teacher, self employed electrician or something like that.. The cost of living is very high (taxes, food, insurance, ..) compared to the low wages.

its cheaper in the Philippines then all in canada ....food is very cheap, and so is rent because they are not printing any money, Canada is getting out of hand, too expensive to live or even eat problems are going more bad, nobody cares any more, much easier to move out the country and live some where else !
