Fieldsports Britain – know your roe

It’s one of Britain’s great nature spectacles. Roy Lupton guides us through the roebuck rut in Hampshire, with commentary on which deer to shoot and which to leave for a future season. And what happens to all that lovely venison? News correspondent Deborah Hadfield finds out, as she sets herself the challenge of buying wild deer meat. Meanwhile, in Africa, Ollie Williams is out after kudu, guided by the students from the Northern Cape Professional hunting School. We’re giving away a Spypoint Force 20 trailcam priced at £120, David is on the news stump and James Marchington has the top hunting videos on YouTube in Hunting YouTube. Keep it #FieldsportsBritain

Here are the links to the individual items in this week’s show:

Very good show again this evening, thank you Charlie and team! Phrases I thought I would never hear myself "I agree with Bunter Blackford..." but, unbelievably, I do. That said, only Bunter could liken lambs to Mars Bars! 🤣

I love Roy's attitude and selection, most would have taken the first buck-but how lovely to keep a well known and easily recognised buck, next year perhaps!

I love how you only reluctantly shoot deer to manage the land, and not just obliterate them (which I'm sure would be easy for you). A proper hunt often returns empty. Much respect!

Bit off topic can you do something for one of our angling treasures Bernard Cribbins RIP.
Just a piece about his love of fishing. Thanks Tony

I am a shooting man myself but I can't understand how the guy that shot the Kudu reloaded his gun and is walking around without having put his safety on! (or who allowed him to do it).

How much (%) of the venison sold in these shops was wild or farmed ? It does make a difference !!

As a vegetarian of 27 years and vegan of a further 7 years I have to say: - Forget Vegan - Go Venison!
It's the next step beyond veganism - ethically sourced meat - if you wish to be truly ethical, learn to stalk and take full responsibility for killing the animal by doing it yourself.

Camara guy has not ever hunted before you can tell with the first guy. He does not know how to be quiet.

I still will never understand the distain and hatred that folks from the UK have against Birds or prey, especially sea eagles. Like it should be celebrated that they are no longer extinct there, but now all the sheep farmers just want to repeat the errors of the past. Same goes for beavers. If you love nature and the countryside, you have to love all of the animals that live there period
