Malaysia's Trump card

Analysts believe Trump’s second US presidency will help boost Malaysia’s trade and stock market, as trade war 2.0 between US and China redirects trade and investment flows.

They expect a potential re-direction of trade and investment flows to encourage greater re-exports through Malaysia, and also net foreign inflows into the country.

MIDF Research says the current foreign direct investment (FDI) trend might continue and even accelerate with the possibility of "Trade War 2.0", as multinational companies include Malaysia as part of the China+1 strategy.

It says the US' move to tighten its trade rules will promote greater integration with the Global South, in terms of trade, investment and financial flows.
