OFF-GRID Windows 10 Laptop Setup for Radio Comms

Today I setup the Evolve Maestro Laptop with a fresh install of Windows 10 and some tricks to make it work Off-Grid, which basically means you don't need internet at all.

To download win10 from windows using windows (Windows will create a bootable installation media for you automatically from the link you posted), go to the download page you linked > scroll down to "Using the tool to create installation media" > download the tool and it will automatically download Win10, make your USB stick bootable, and install Win10 to the USB stick. It's that simple, No extra steps are needed. Simply boot to the USB stick and it will guide you through the install. Note: You will need a valid Win10 key, and make sure you understand Win10 partition requirements if you plan to do a dual boot, or partition a drive that's currently running an OS.

Great video! Just wondering if anyone who tried this lost their audio and microphone after the reimage. I'm guessing on mine the drivers were deleted when I wiped it. Thanks.

Just be aware that some applications have built in expiry timers that will force you to update to more current versions or they won't function.

I just got my technician ticket last week and am very new to ham. I got a new, old stock, 878 plus. One of my elmers programmed it with his code plug. Im getting one of these laptops soon. W/o connecting to wifi, how do I get everything I need for this “cyber-deck”? Thanks to you and many other youtubers for helping me along the way.

I installed W10 on a Win 7 computer that was old enough that it didn't have the embedded key. It started pestering me to register at about 90 days.

I downloaded the Windows ISO file onto my android cell phone, got it transferred to my Windows 11 laptop via link to Windows, now it won't transfer from my laptop to my thumbdrive. Keeps telling me the file size is too large. Even tried to zip it. It transfers over but won't unzip properly. Fricken Microsoft.
