In fact, one recent example came when NASA officials said that a large asteroid almost made contact with us, with them saying that they had no idea it was heading towards our planet. It's just one of the examples used by scientists that outlines how unpredictable space can be, with them saying that although we have teams and equipment across the world to help detect these things, every so often asteroids will slip through, leaving us completely unprepared....

Interesting...they're saying "above" our planet. Now... depending on where... on the planet... it may not actually be "above"... IF they are referring to "the top" wouldn't that be the north pole?

Maybe what they really mean is the earth is really flat... therefore "above" would mean over ALL the land.
