Today, we'll be discussing pulmonary edema as seen on a chest x ray and all the differentials you should be thinking about when seeing this type of x-ray.
When there is pulmonary edema on chest x-ray it's usually from a disruption in Starling Forces. Now, I won't get into too much detail. But, essentially there is too much pressure in the pulmonary arteries, causing a disruption in osmotic pressure, pushing fluid and proteins out into the alveolar space, leading to hypoxemia and shortness of breath.
There are two causes of pulmonary edema:
- Cardiogenic
- Non-cardiogenic
So, let's jump right in!
