for local computer settings you can just modify "hosts" file.

Some routers, modems, router modem hybrids have an option to set dns.Doing this will set the dns for all computers in the network no matter what their dns is set to in their computers.

the best Internet filtering software I know of is Blue Coat K9 Web protection. Its a small program, and is amazing.

@LightBlade1989 The only problem with that is its fairly easy to change your proxy or reroute it. Thats what people do at my school

@FcSteezey I agree, blocking traffic on the web is one of those things that you basically give up as much security with as much trust as you invest in the end user. If you grant them access to the entire web but then try to limit parts of it, there will always be a way around it short of denying access to the entire web. The benefit of having a forced proxy on your public IP device, e.g. router or modem, is that then the end user must use an external proxy to bypass it.

Yea, I've been running it too, but didn't realist that my school has it running too, so now I hope they don't have it on the router setup page, because I can't access that, but I can still access the network settings of the computer.

You ought to set up a proxy server to send your router traffic through, that way it is not dependent on what browser you are using. Squid is a great proxy server for this type of application

You can always just edit the hosts file.. Set the domain name to the local ip to have it fail out, or another IP if you are feeling creative.

could you make a tutorial about opening router ports? because some ports wont open. i have fixed so i can now open port 80 for apache and port 3306 for MySQL but i want other ports to be opened aswell but they wont open i dont know why. so could you make a tutorial how to open them and give me some tips please. thanks!
