We explore what it means for a complex function to be a conformal map, and discover that we can use the concept of conformal map to derive a definition for complex derivative. It turns out that these derivatives are incredibly restrictive -- complex functions only have a complex derivative if they solve the Cauchy-Riemann equations. We can use these coupled linear partial differential equations to show the uniqueness of complex analytic functions with certain propertiesl.
