Growing Kale - What You Need To Know

Kale is potentially one of the healthiest vegetables in the world. The great thing is that it is one of the easiest veggies to grow. It is always good to learn how to save seeds for various things you grow and saving kale seeds is a bit different than many of your garden veggies. Kale is biennial, meaning it takes two years to give you seed. The great thing is that it can overwinter in most of the US and you can eat it all winter long (if you have enough). I hope to grow enough this year to get me all through summer, fall, winter and spring. Her is my video on how to plant kale.

Neat info about kale. I'll have to see if I can get some to survive our Florida summer to make it to the second year and get seed.

I'm Z5a. My purple kale handled this years artic blast without a problem. I add rabbit manure and that's it. Don't take care of them after that. It's the second year and they are flowing. The biggest problem they will have this year is that I planted horseradish next to them. I didn't realize that horseradish is a monster of a plant. It needs a lot of more room then you can imagine. But it's worth it. IMO.

I found Portuguese kale easier to grow... less bugs and more heat tolerance.
