Health Care Professionals and Education on Death and Dying

There is NOT enough education around death and dying in health care because the primary focus is on what we can do to keep patients alive. But what about when it comes to the end of life? There needs to be more focus on education on Death and Dying! Living Better to Die better. If we are more educated on the process of death and understand how the natural biological process works we can begin to make it less scary and uncomfortable.

I love to hear your thoughts and look forward to the ongoing conversation around hospice care and education around end of life practices.

When dealing with any medically related events or medical emergencies, please communicate with your primary health care provider.

Thank you so much for videos. They helped so much when my Mum was dying from dementia and all it's complications.
She had a peaceful and beautiful passing, surrounded by family.
It helped with the guilt afterwards that we didn't starve or dehydrated her intentionally.🎉 I was with her in her last 24 hrs, praying, singing her favourite songs, keeping her comfortable and holding her as she took her last breath. Such a surreal moment.
Months later, I had a dream, she was with my grandmother and Aunty (her Sister) and she was smiling at me, and I could hear her saying in my head "I'm happy where I am". Brought me such peace ❤

When we only ever see death as The Enemy no wonder we fear it. Thank you so much for educating and easing fears. 💛

Exactly. And death is still not a topic many people want to talk about. But we have to in order to learn to be okay with it. Julie, you are doing that and are helping so many people! ❤

When I was a nursing instructor, I took my students to a hospice unit that was inside the hospital we did our clinicals at. Some were leery & resisted, so I took the students who embraced the idea first. They all ended up loving the experience. They learned so much and saw so much on their hospice rotation that I know that special group was probably the best prepared class of any before them at our school! ❤

We've lost three close lived ones in the last couple of years and I have to tell you it's incredibly comforting to understand the death process. My dad was the first and we didn't understand and kept trying to feed him and make him have water. By the next two family members, it was so much easier to allow the process to happen naturally. It's not ever easy with a loved one, but this information is so comforting ❤

I'm so glad you're educating others about the death and dying process. There are things I never would have known, like that being dehydrated is what's best for a dying body.

I probably know as much as a Hospice Nurse. I was with both my brothers when they passed and spent the last 41 days of my sisters life caring for her, Hospice never came in tell the last 3 days of her life and my Dad who the Hospital sent him to Hospice and he passed the very next day. I do know that aside of what I keep hearing you say...my sister had severe Anxiety AND THEY PLACED MORPHINE in her cheeks that helped greatly!!! I am 61yrs old and lost my first brother when I was 19yrs old, he was 25yrs old, I lost my other brother when when I was 45yrs old, he was 48yrs old, my sister passed when I was 54yrs old and she was 60yrs old. I just know that no matter how many Hospice Nurses I listen to you all have a big difference ... There is NO ONE WAY TO DIE...EVERYONE DIES A LITTLE DIFFERENT

Thank you for educating folks on the death process. We are born to die. It’s sad for those remaining but it’s pat of life. Be not afraid!

Rescued a dog recently. My friend a Vet called, "It's you or the incinerator. You're the only one I could think of that has experience with dangerous animals and people". During my Evaluation in a quiet room one of her Vet Techs asked if she could observe quietly. Later I spoke with her and asked what she was taught about Dog Psychology in School.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing." So I taught her a few things.
Like death and dying many health professionals have little to no training, understanding. Thanks for teaching those of us who want to learn more!
[Dog is doing well. I decided to keep her given the extent and complexity of the abuse.]

My favorite uncle died at 12:13 this morning..on hospice. He was 90...He went very fast..talking constantly the night before....calling out for his mama...got up ate a bowl of cereal and banana...around 10 am he went to sleep...by 730, 800 he started to have the death rattle....and at 12:13 he died surrounded by his wife of 50 years, his daughter, and me and my cousin.
