If your vocals recordings aren’t cutting through in your mixes…

You don’t need EQ to fix that.

Neither do you need compression.

In this week’s video, pro vocal coach Chris Liepe shows you how to unlock a “secret EQ” that’s in built into your voice, and chances are…

You’ve never seen anything like this before.

This is legitimately eye opening for me. I've known of the different tones of voices but I never put much thought into how they really let things sit in the mix.

Imagine recording this video in an apartment, and the look on your neighbors' faces. Great video!

I LEARNED MORE IN THIS VIDEO THAN FROM MONTHS OF PRIOR COACHING. SPEECHLESS!!!

I would agree with you 100% on the Freddy Mercury information you shared. I instantly can see what you are talking about with him! I don't consider myself an exceptional singer. However, I am getting better and more comfortable over the years, singing in my rap songs, instead of just rapping. These are some fantastic pointers and advice! Thanks.

That’s awesome man,
And kind of answers my current dilemma

This man should be everywhere! I saw so many videos about microphone comparison, preamps, converters. Tiny fucking differences which cost thousands. And you buy some stuff and get surprised that your vocal still sounds horrible. Yeah, I've been through this and I figured things out. It's not only about expensive equipement. This is when we realise why someone with a 100 dollar recording chain sound better than someone with a 5000 dollar chain.

Love it. One if the best videos I've seen on vocals production. Also, very Sound Garden sounding.

Reminds me of helter skelter, you've helped me more by making wacky chicken noises than I thought possible!

Also didn't realize this wasn't the normal channel. Good for Chris getting a bigger audience. Mohr singers!!!

What a fantastically useful video, thanks Chris. To solve this problem I discovered what I call the 'smile technique' where you shape the mouth into a permanent smile while you sing, and this creates a more consistent vocal that doesn't wander all over the place. It also gives the vocal a more positive sound. You have to be disciplined to keep the shape in place.

Additionally this guy knows exactly how to work the axis of the mic which has a massive effect on higher frequencies levels as they are much more directional. Look at the changes in his head/body angle relative to the plane of the mic diaphragm from 7:21 (off axis by maybe 45 Deg.) through to 7:51 (maybe down to 20 Deg), experiment with it.

Finally, a demo song that I can relate to.

I have to admit that I was away from this channel, but this bald rock supreme singer is by far the bravest, he doesn't mind to show all the secrets.
Think twice if you thought Vin Diesel was the bravest bald hero.
Thanks Graham, thanks my bald friend 🤘
