The edits that go behind these shorts is underrated....someone literally has to watch this ...take out key parts that are important...and then edit it with whatever translations are needed....love it.shout out to whoever does that..they create the small moments that may make a potential viewer go watch the full episode

I feel this. From a Dj standpoint. Eqing baby 💪🏻

I always take out the low Eq on the reverb. Really makes a difference

Guys plz use your ears as well don’t crank a low shelf at 200khz at 7 db everytime use your ears cuz you can thin out the vocal doing this

I find myself doing subtractive EQ all over the place. It just clears up so much and for me at least, allows me to apply as minimal plugin processing as possible.

Remember, every instrument produces 200-250 Hz.

It fills up and clutters the room you’re in as well as your mixes.

Nice trick is to put certain vocals on a separate channel, that way you can EQ them differently. Potentially leave some of those lower/bassier frequencies when the actual bass is absent.

Thank you, confirmation from an expert that I've been mixing the right way for years.

cleaning some things up that you cant really see, opens up room for for other things to be cleaned up. what a fuckin gem

Thats powerful💯and that will save a mix and give a better result in the end, as im starting to learn more lately. If the goal is to have a clearer more defined mix by removing unneeded frequencies on certain sounds does help free up headspace and allows that frequency from other instruments and sounds in the mix to stand out a little more and make the mix sound less muddy and more defined in the end. On the production side, for example, if the producer or artist claims they want a distorted or "raw" sound, its also so important from a mixing point of view to save or preserve the mix by understanding what frequencies in which different sounds sit, while also satisfying what the producer or artist requests. Being able to execute such a thing successfully is a result of understanding certain sounds and their dominant frequencies which makes it easier to decide what frequencies on which sounds to remove or keep in a mix.

I realized my vocals had a lot of low end when I would track so I started using a low shelf at 110hz about -5db and I’ve been getting way more crispier vocals.

I sweep for the frequencies I want by the weave them together by dipping some and boosting others so the instruments I use are all in separate spaces

i think he is referring to a source that you can do that on. some would rather use a low shelf then to use a low cut filter. apparently on certain sources it sounds better to lower the range instead of cutting everything out.

If what you got out of this is "a technique" or "take 7 dbs off 200hz with a LF from your vocals to get clarity" the problem is not your mixing skills, the problem is your comprehension skills. Great advise if understood right, it's a basic concept but an important one

Hey you remember that time you used an eq exactly how it was meant to be used? Wow that was so cool

this is why it’s not advisable to spend too much time soloing tracks and making them sound full by themselves. how it fits into the song is what matters most, and by removing mud you can make what’s left even louder and more impactful.

Nooo cap… I dead do this with vocals alll the time and I thought I was thining out the vocal so it feels good to know a professional does this and gives me peace of mind that I’m not bugging lmao. I usually do like 4.5-5 DB though. On a thicker vocal (pause) I definitely hit that 6-7 sometimes 🙏🏻
