I will give my best advice to developing board artists. Remember boarding IS filmmaking. So you want to be very well versed in the skills and art of filmmaking. To this end you must study all the live action films you can. (study is not watching) Everybody watches but that doesn't make them film makers. Learn the shots. Sketch out sequences from your favorite films. Look at the compositions. Pay attention to the edits and transitions- how and when they happen. Pay attention to the character blocking and what the camera is doing. What is the pacing of the shots and editing? What is the art director doing in the sequence? How are the actors performing to the camera? What lens is being used in your guestimation? How is lighting being used? By learning all of this stuff you develop a catalog of ideas in your head that you can quickly call upon when it's time to board your own sequence. Without good ideas it doesn't really matter what you draw.

It’s scary how well timed your videos are. When I was studying anatomy, boom here’s an anatomy lesson. When I’m trying to decide between Adobe and ToonBoom, boom a comparison video, and today in my art class we were trying to choose on what to cover next and I pitched story boarding... like? Do you know me somehow?

On my bucket list is making a full animated movie, and I will say that all of your vids are probably one of my greatest inspirations and sources of information in the world of animation. Thank you! And keep up the good work!

Storyboard, artistically speaking is a combination between composition, gesture, shape and value .

Thank you so much for this! I want to do more storyboards and animatics but I always got frustrated in the process because I was trying to do it with almost no planning, and when I did any planning it was just from very basic script to the animatic process, but now I see more clear how to properly do a planning process!

This is a welcome break from working and reworking complicated keys and breakdowns.

Glad to see you're gonna keep uploading, at least some, since 100k!

Great stuff- I'm taking an animation end to end course with the school of visual arts and we just did storyboarding! Really helpful to have a script as I found that helps limit the scene- without it I feel there is a danger to becoming overwhelmed. As you get closer and closer to an end product- effort increases for any big changes. Having a script and storyboard is a great framework to combat any "creep".

Thanks for this so much!

It's such an honor to be able to see the artist's work process that I admire. Your content from experience stands out among many YouTube contents or etc...Thank you for always providing quality content. In this video, it was interesting to design space and camera before boarding. And it was nice to see how you using the storyboard pro!

4:46 O.o the heck? That move from top down view to making it 3D blew my mind. I’ve never even thought of that!

I’ve been thinking about doing an animated series when i finish the work I currently have, so these videos about storyboarding & animation tips are really helpful for me! They seem really professional and the animations in them always look so amazing.
Most of my problem with storyboarding is that i always add wayyy too much detail, but these have helped me see some other problems i have as well

FINALLY, a video, someone, who actually demonstrates how to directly tie your written script to the storyboard...finally.
Most videos just focus on the art, the drawing, just the storyboard side of it but totally FAIL to connect the dots direction from your script to the board, in as far as matching the spoken dialogue in script with a drawing on the board...or matching board shot heading with script shot heading, and are they tagged to match one another and so forth...
For serious screenwriters, beginning ones anyways, that's vital info.
