My goal is to give Bill Gates and his Microsoft Windows the one-finger salute but the question remains, can I use an alternative operating system (Linux) and use all of the hardware and software needed to be a "daily driver"? Blows me away that it's already 5 years since the Abandon Adobe experience!
Well done!

Just Rage quitted Windows 11 a month ago, now using Linux Mint. I now am at peace.

I moved all my machines to Debian eighteen months ago.
After decades of Windows, I couldn't take anymore of the dumbing down of the system, the reporting/logging of all events and operations, and the overall deep inefficiency. Enough is enough...

Damn straight! I've used Linux since 2002, an UNIX in the 90's. windoz 7 was the only version that worked, but those updates that slowed down windoz really sucked! I bought a new laptop that had windoz on it, and the first thing I did was, DUMP windoz and put Linux Mint on it, and NEVER looked back!!

Fast is cool! I now have a variety of machines with Mint. Mini pc for a media pc, tower w/3060 for funning, laptop that I don't use but doesn't deserve to be abused by microsoft. Lots of fun because it's working well.

I dual booted for a few years, then a couple of years ago I tried to dump windows. Did not completely work, so fast forward a year (about a year ago) then I went 100% Linux and after testing a few distro’s I have settled on Fedora 40 and am testing fedora 41 on my storage desktop.
Linux 100%

Your success makes me very happy. We got caught in the Mint 22 upgrade glitch, and went back to 21.3 (which happens to work very well.) Why did we change? MS Windows 10 set off my alarm bells and after hardware testing we settled on Mint and the Cinnamon desktop. Which does everything we want to do. And I have been building our own desktops since the days of math co-processors, and find 16 GB of system RAM to be quite enough. Being possessed of many old games, I don't require a whole lot of horsepower.

I am not a programmer. Back in the day, you had to do a lot on the command line to run Linux. With today's Linux(Mint in my case) it is a lot more gui oriented and with any necessary CLI stuff, someone on line has something you can copy and paste to do the deed. Mint to me is the most Windows like distro and has served me well since Win 7 died.

good to see that you are feeling better

I think you hit the nail on the head with one comment, it all depends on what you want to do with your PC. My PC is a decent mid-range 1080p gaming rig, and probably decent for other tasks, and I don't play a lot of modern games anyway, and I find for my general computing needs it's plenty fast enough. Excellent series of videos, keep up the good work!

Just in case you didn't know, only the paid Version of Davinci Resolve supports hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding of codecs such as H.264 and H.265.

Love this series. Next weeks job to fire up an old PC with mint and see how i get on. Getting very bored with MS forced updates and needing new hardware. Even the constant fiddling with office ui upsetting me these days.
Im glad to see the PacMan ghosts are mobile againin this one. They were asleep a few episodes ago. Lol.

If you watch the screenshots taken by Recall in sequence, it's basically like watching a video of what you're doing on your desktop.

After learning Linux...Windows angered me

Just finished 1 month on Ubuntu desktop(which I'm already familiar with) from Windows11 and now switched over to Fedora 40. Since they're both using Gnome for the DE it's essentially identical except for command line differences. Both are working equally well.

I've been using Linux as a daily driver operating system since 2005 but actually started using it in 1999, first on a spare pc then as a dual boot with win2k when I was learning Photoshop
But i didn't get much done in windows because there was always something that needed updating, antivirus, firewall or windows itself and I used linux for more and more stuff

Thanks. I really liked your real world use evaluation. And how you gave things for people to consider when making their own decision.

I was so thrown off by you stating your amd motherboard couldn't run a 5000 series processor. The x370 boards should just need a bios upgrade like the updates that b350 and b450 got. The only issue is you have to upgrade the bios with the old chip in first then do the swap. Loving the series. I need to get serious about switching as well especially now that Wayland has better Nvidia support.
