For clarification: He not only took off again, he finished 3 more runs while grabbing exfils in between landings. This dude had some of the most brazen plot armor a pilot could have.

My dad retired as a C130 loadmaster and has told me some crazy stories about landing under fire to pick up troops, cork screw landings on Wake Island and more. Proud of his work but more thankful that those pilots brought my dad home after every mission

Then he took off in it. Best line ever. I can imagine the pilot waving as he took off, 2 burning engines, smile on his face.
I pray he made it home alive

I served in the Air Force as a command post controller and I can say the C130 pilots were hands down the most humble pilots in the entire fleet. They will go any and everywhere with no complaints and the aircraft is a workhorse.

I was a flight medic in the USAF (X4N071), and our ops group was a C-130 unit. I loved our pilots. Two of our nurses were married to two of our pilots, so we saw them at plenty of the smaller squadron functions; Family Day, etc. Absolutely amazing people. They're like those drag race guys who race semi-trucks -- they have the same mentality as the guys who fly the fighters but do it with a bus instead.

I can just imagine that C-130 pilot looking back yelling “We’re here!” 🤣

A guy I served with & flew with had a saying "You would be surprised what you can do when someone is shooting at you". Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!

My Great Grandpa was a C-130 pilot in Vietnam. I was lucky enough to know him and I can say he’s the coolest dude I’ve ever met.

I was a crew chief on C-130j-30s and those things can literally drop off a damn cliff and recover with ease. We had a punk ass load toad on what was supposed to be a 3, turned 7 day tdy that made life difficult for all of us. Coming back to home station, he was sleeping on the bunk in the cockpit. We were at like 12000' and got cleared down to 3000, pilot looked at co, then back at me in the jump seat directly behind them and we all understood what was about to happen. I tossed my lap belt on just as he nosed over the edge straight down... Everything in the cockpit was mid air, including douche canoe on the bunk. Pilot leveled off at 5 for a second then nose down again till we leveled off at 3. When we hit 5 the toad bounced off the bunk and was in the process of falling to the floor before we went down again. Lol he got a few bumps and bruises, which were all very well deserved. Needless to say, he had a "change of heart" by the time we landed. Good fucking times.

Former C-130 crew chief here, operated out of Maxwell AFB in the old Tuskegee Airmen hangars. Very neat birds. We flew one to Key West a few years ago and the pilots were logging flight hours flying VFR over the Bahamas in primetime cruise season. We would do flyby’s and low passes over the water at around between 300-700’ elevation. Close enough you could kinda see the passengers on the cruise ships cheering and waving their arms as we flew over. When you’re on ground and these things fly over you, it’s a sound that sounds like it’s straight outta WWII. It’s super cool. Glad I got to “work” on em for a few years lol. Got some cool pics and videos on my phone I’ll always treasure.

I am Ex-RAF engine tech with 16Yrs experience, I once had the honour and pleasure of being stood behind the pilot for a Khe-sanh landing. diving straight at the ground at between 85-90 degrees with a pull up at 200feet to land in the shortest distance possible, drop off troops and vehicles, reverse thrust to gain about 150-200feet runway and take off and climb at 75-80degrees to get out of small arms fire range. Even though it was a demonstration it was terrifying stood gripping the handles on the pilots seat back and the wall, looking UP to see the ground on landing. I love and really miss my Fat Alberts.

Fun fact: The C-130 only needed to be half as big as it is. They had to scale up the plane to be able to fly due to the massive balls C-130 pilots have.
