In the Garden #314
“Ask Me Anything” sermon series request
I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses, And the voice I hear falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses.
Refrain
And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing, And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing.
Repeat Refrain
I'd stay in the garden with Him Though the night around me be falling, But He bids me go; through the voice of woe His voice to me is calling.
Repeat Refrain

I'm not of that church's faith, but I sure enjoyed hearing them sing this old classic. My mom wasn't a very active Christian, but this was one hymn she actually sang. She is long dead, but I sing it for her memory.

Beautiful.I play the organ almost every night and I play many of the old hymns and because I know many of the words in 84 years, it is form of worship for me.Praise be to God!

This is one of the best recordings of this beautiful song. So many other versions sing it too slow. Thank You for posting this.

This was my grandmother's favorite hymn. When she died about 10 years ago, we had someone play it and it moved my dad, who rarely ever cries, to tears. It's a very special hymn to me for many reasons, but that one is one of the most important reasons.

Such joy in music! These Methodists love the classic hymns and it shows in their smiles.

Will sing that with my brother at my son's memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 1

Today is my Grandmothers birthday. This is the only song she sang as she prepared to meet God. Can’t hear it now without crying.

Beautiful glass, organ, sanctuary, robed choir; house of worship. Love hymns and churches that feel like church! Where have these glorious places gone? Replaced by rock bands, worship leaders in skinny jeans and Adidas in a gymnasium with light shows.

I come to the garden alone,

While the dew is still on the roses,

And the voice I hear falling on my ear,

The Son of God discloses...

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own,

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other, has ever, known!

He speaks and the sound of His voice,

Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,

And the melody that he gave to me,

Within my heart is ringing . . .

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,

And He tells me I am His own,

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other, has ever, known!

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

None other, has ever, known!

This is a full bodied blend with amazing energy, and a hint of strong spice from the trumpets. Delicious all around.

One of my favorites, just as everyone else who has commented. Beautiful, peaceful rendition that is straight out of the hymnal, no arrangement, with four-part harmony. I especially enjoy watching the expressiveness in the eyes and face of the director.

There was a time when church music elevated the musicianship of the person in the pew to be able to fully participate. It also placed the congregation in the realm of reflection...offering voices in praise, then quietly awaiting a heartfelt response from The Almighty.

With rare exceptions such as this, those days are gone. Goodbye, church.

The chorus, organist, orchestrates this master rendition exceedingly beautiful. Thanks for elevating us before God's Throne.

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

(Refrain)

I’d stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

1 I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

2 He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing. [Refrain]

3 I'd stay in the garden with Him
Tho' the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro' the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling. [Refrain]

You don't get these wonderful old hymns in church any more. The new music is beating the heck out of instruments and repetitive words.
