I’m German and I completely understand why she did that. She couldn’t be sure that racists would have been eliminated during the casting process. We have a rise in accepted racism in Germany. The cast of LiB was the least White I have ever seen on such shows here. We don’t have clear linguistic markers for race like the English language. Dialects are strongly connected to the region within Germany or class. Only an accent could give someone away.
Long story short: she wanted to be safe and has every right to do so.
Now it’s clear that BIPOCs will be on the cast so that the racist *** won’t be interested to participate anyway. 😁

I don’t know why anyone would go on a show called “Love is Blind” if they aren’t open to all races. That doesn’t make sense but people will do anything for clout I guess…

I am a white woman and dont want to put myself in black women shoes, not fair to even try. That said, in my point of view she was clever. Being black matters and if she invest in talking to a racist, it would be a waste of her time. Lets see it they will talk about it soon. Its an important topic, I believe.

I personally feel like hinting on your race is not just about looks. Our view of the world are heavily depend on the environment that we in. People with different ethnic background/races can experience the same city/country in different ways.

As a Black German, I would absolutely hint on my race during the pod phase. So many men in Germany do not prefer black women. So imo you gotta spare yourself of the embarassment if you can! And the way Shella talks sounds very white so she did everything right by disclosing her race.

i mean the guy asked her where she's from after hearing her name and i think it was his intention to figure out her race maybe, so it's not like she was going out of her way to let him know. he "broke protocol" first

Honestly I found it refreshing. Compare it to Taylor from Love is blind DC. Shila revealed her ethnic background and it was just regular and normal. Taylor made an entire scene. German men are much more well-traveled though

I live in Germany (Im Indian, but grew up in the US) and they're verrrry aware of races in dating (gay and straight, though the former applies to myself). Some are commonly fetishisized or idolized, like Mediterraneans or Latinos. And some are commonly avoided (like Indian lol) or fetishized but only by certain people. This is common even amongst the younger crowd, so much so that if you are not the race they prefer, forget dating you most people will not even treat you decently. It's absolutely terrible, especially when you cross the border to Belgium or France or Netherlands and suddenly people start treating you better.

You should absolutely hint at your race because the last thing you want is a man reacting how Sam did with Nicole in the UK series... The man was literally trying to comfort himself when he saw her and you cannot tell me it's not because he was surprised that she was black.

Love is blind does seem OK for black women but we should still move with caution.

Revealing race or ethnicity defeats the whole purpose of love is blind. Even some names defeat the whole purpose which is why i wasnt mad at Kwame from love is blind US considering using his second name Alex. I think she revealed her ethnicity out of insecurity, its a big risk to go on a show like love island and risk a guy being shocked and acting shocked at you being black. I also think she only picked the guy because he was in africa before, that being said there is nothing impressive about german guy visiting south african countries like south africa, namibia etc...they own most the land there

I think you can go on the show and ask if the person has dated people from other races or would they be comfortable dating someone from a different race without disclosing their race. That is important to know someone is open to that. Also they should disclose if they like a certain body type or only find a certain body type attractive so time is not wasted.

I remember Natalie Lee from LIB US Season 2 saying that almost everyone hinted at their race and other elements of their appearance in the pods without necessarily explicitly saying it.
She told the guy she matched with that her parents are Korean and also disclosed her last name so he was 100 percent sure that she was Asian.
I think it would be unusual not to do this even if the footage is not necessarily shown.

I agree with you. I would be curious if anything else 🤔 😂. I don't think men care, tho they just want a beautiful person to look at, but with the show, love is blind. Don't sell yourself short ladies. I wouldn't and I would try to conceal it as best I can lol 😆 😜 😂!

The whole point of the show is to get to know someone without disclosing physical features. If you feel you have to disclose that, don't go on the show, choose another one... Simple 🙄.
