Start of Corn Harvest!! (Close Call with Wagons & Hills)

The Start of Corn! Been waiting for this day for awhile. The first field we went to is the field we pattern-tiled last fall. It's looked decent all year and very consistent. Ear size was not as big as hoped but it put out a decent yield! We still have about 50 acres left on that farm to harvest, only did 24 acres!

Also had a close call with 2 wagons on the hills. The tractor went into a bad powerhop and I didn't want to stop until I really had to. I just had too much weight behind the tractor. Luckily, nothing was broke on the tractor, and the wagon tongue just needed a few parts. It was pretty stupid on my end to take that much weight up the hill.

Watching that tractor hop, all I could think of was how many bad things could have happened and how much they’d cost.

On our farm, we pull one of those brents with a john deere 6210r. It doesn't struggle with it, but we have a lot of hills here. This one time, we had cows in corn stalks, and we were going to chisel it up before planting with like a 10 ft cultivator type thing. I was in the cab and that thing started power hopping so bad one second I was sitting, and the next I was in the air and my head hit the roof. It's always kind of enlightening to see a machine like that struggle so bad.

As soon as the tractor starts to hop just stop you can brake so much stuff when you do that .
Great video though it's awesome to see you and Spence working together and growing from playing farm Sim to actually buying and building a farm from scratch bravo guys ❤❤❤

My guy, you are living the dream. I’m so glad I watched your brothers 4020 video or I never would have found yours. I’m trying to figure out how to start farming small scale (while I keep my day job) and build from there. Your an inspiration.

Congrats! Glad to see you getting a good yield! I will say an 85 year old gentleman I farm with says if you don't have a chopping corn head run your head just below the ears. You will save on head loss and also residue problems. You will (and should) have to chop stocks before running tillage. Just finished harvest tonight! Good luck

Great video hopefully this winter or next year before spring you can buy another big tractor. I’d I also try to see if there’s any older semis and small hopper bottoms and a grain cart. Good luck we’re half done with beans.

It’s great to see you can find quick workarounds for the random problems that present themselves. Farming is like that everyday. No textbook path to follow for success, just hard work and quick clear thinking to keep moving forward to the goal. Your desire to maintain a safe operation will pay huge dividends. Keep up the great job.
