Tory MP Tom Hunt Doesn't Understand The Asylum Process But Weaponises It!

preview_player
Показать описание
Tom Hunt, Conservative MP, was on Talk Radio to discuss immigration and and how "left wing lawyers" are running circles around the process. Home Secretary Priti Patel is attempting to make it more difficult for people to claim asylum in the UK, but by doing so she runs of the risk of breaking international agreements, basically acting illegally which is ironic. Brexit was also invoked.

At least someone is finally admitting that people voted leave because of immigration. Its taken time, but there it is.

The UK is one of the least compassionate countries in western Europe having allowed the least asylum seekers for decades.

I always tell people the best way to solve the "issue" of people leaving their country and coming to the UK, is to make it that they didn't want to leave their country

This is standard Tory behaviour and it is depressing that the "opposition" don't give them a kicking for this.

Disingenuous, he knows what he's doing but that won't stop him repeating populist rhetoric. He simply knows that it is what some people want to hear. Every Tory government since the war has campaigned on immigration. Not one of them has felt it to important enough to take any further. They know we need immigration but we have to keep 'that idiot down the pub' happy.

The funny thing is:
The "safe third country" agreement is an agreement withing the EU. After Brexit it no longer applys to UK ;-)

You know the old saying, "rules are for those who can't afford other rules".

Hunt rhymes with something entirely appropriate.

It sounds like a horrible conversation I'm going to have to have with my kids because of a right wing minority, who have taken my kids right to movement around the EU away from them.

Max, you missed the beginning of Hunt's rant when he said "'I'm not a racist, but...."

From the 1951 Conevtion on refugees, and the 1967 Protocol: The Convention further stipulates that, subject to specific exceptions, refu-gees should not be penalized for their illegal entry or stay. This recognizes that the seeking of asylum can require refugees to breach immigration rules. Prohibited penalties might include being charged with immigration or crim-inal offences relating to the seeking of asylum, or being arbitrarily detained purely on the basis of seeking asylum. Importantly, the Convention contains various safeguards against the expulsion of refugees. The principle of non-refoulement is so fundamental that no reservations or derogations may be made to it. It provides that no one shall expel or return (“refouler”) a refugee against his or her will, in any manner whatsoever, to a territory where he or she fears threats to life or freedom.

Further, as we have no treaty with France on returning non-citizens of France we cannot send refugees there.

If I'm Swedish, white, own a sailing yacht and sail to the UK this summer, have I then entered the country illegally?
Or is that only if I come in a dinghy? Or is that only if I am brown?
Asking for a friend.

Strong borders for people, no borders for goods.
Within the EU, the country of arrival is still a thing, but the UK decided to leave, so that's no longer applicable for them.
Actions have consequences.
