No tape. Denatured alcohol. If you run the bead smoothly and spray with denatured alcohol. It wipes away perfect. Plus that tape peels the silicone away from the tile at the top. If you use tape. After you pull it you need to run your finger over it one more time. To seal that top edge

Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) works better than soapy water as the anti sticky solvent. You have to remove the tape while the caulk is still “wet” to get the good clean edge.

Fill the tub with water, so if the bathtub shifts when it’s filled, it won’t break the seal 💪

The instructions on my silicone caulk specifically said NOT to use soapy water.

When you remove the tape it lifts the edge of your silicone, reducing the effectiveness of the seal. This will cause your silicone edge to wear away and fail prematurely.

Taping the edge first seems to be the game-changer... i hate to tape, but I'm never sorry when i take the time to do it.

Every GE product including this one has molded after a year. I haven't found any 100% silcone product that doesn't mold. If you think about it, if they made a product that doesn't mold after a year or so, these manufacturers would lose millions of dollars.

I don’t know if I trust the soapy water trick. I’ve seen videos debunking the effectiveness of this. If you don’t do a 100% perfect consistent bead and it isn’t 100% airtight in whatever you’re caulking, then you spray the soapy water, and then run your finger/tool it; it isn’t going to fill in/adhere properly to any spots that weren’t covered from the initial bead. If there is one little tiny spot/crack you didn’t perfectly cover- it isn’t going to seal and be fully waterproof after spraying the soapy water & tooling now.

Never EVER EVER do this, 2 big mistakes here. Tape will create a lip which the water will sip behind and soapy water prevents the caulk to adhere 100%. Use a caulking tool kit :). Stop sharing bad information, i lost $$ because of this...

Are you supposed to put grout i between the tile and tub then caulk over or just caulk in between it?

It should be either grouted or left alone this way any water that gets behind the tile will have somewhere to weep. Silicone will lock in any water trying to escape.
