@DanFrederiksen its old because making them in large sheets costs more and is harder to do. but in japan last year they found a way to produce larger plates very cheep and easy. so theyv only just started to bring oled out

@MrNate2111 Not likely. Apparently the OLED screens are not rigid, and are very flexible and you can bend them and even smash the screen with a hammer and it won't break. This one is mounted on a rigid surface, but I presume that the rigid backing is just a thin piece of metal without any real electronics in it that can break.

Most HDTV is in 720p. No HD channels show that they're interlaced that I've seen. Maybe HD Antenna TV? Blu-ray was built to be ready to support 4k. MANY people are starting to get home theaters using projectors with a screen size over 100-200" and even fixed LCD/DLP TVs are pushing 100". OLED is going to change the game once they're more affordable and fixed-size TVs are going to have a standard of 60+ inches as far as cost:size.

@millball you could be surprised by the ability to create now things. this still uses physical to give image, next step is full holograph using just air and a stick.

Was this model ever released? It’s 2018 and smaller OLED TVs are rare as hell, big ones are everywhere.

Although OLED technology is fairly old the main problems were its color imbalance, life span and burn ins, its also sensitive to UV light and can damage easily in humid areas, therefore it must be properly sealed and a UV filter must be put in place, overall its still expensive to make until they can be mass produced.

@DanFrederiksen Down side is that OLEDs degrade faster because it is organic. Just like when any tv gets old the blue always seems to fade and the picture tints red, the same will happen because blue is the fastest wavelength in our field of vision, so it requires more output.. i agree that if we had taken the time to develop OLED before LCD we would have defeated this gap, but during that time this barrier looked quite large for most tech engineering research.

@HDCRdrummer well u actually cant hang these on the wall, cause the whole circuit is on the base and u cant take it off without breaking the tv. its like a laptop screen.

This is incredible. Perfect blacks. Incredibly slim. Probably consumes less power than my laptop too ! Anyway :G is developing QLEDs, which is basically OLEDs with another yellow pixel.

its not about the thickness as much as it is about the picture quality, the thinness is purely aesthetic

@DanFrederiksen the problem with oled is some models lose color quality. people are not going to want to buy a screen that eventually doesn't display blue anymore. oled screens are currently in use in some handheld devices. also, some mp3 players today do use it

Where is it now, lg says their manufacturing line is not profitable yet for 45inches or lower, with we had 32 inch oled tvs for budget oled also a monitor. But burn in is issue too you know

How are you supposed to mount oled monitors or TV to a wall? Their inputs come from their stand...
