My boyfriend's new housemate is a Canadian post-doctoral researcher at our local research university. After he got a breakdown of his healthcare plan, he realized that if he broke his leg it would literally be cheaper for him to fly to Canada to get treatment. Americans pay more out of pocket on average than any other developed nation and get worse health outcomes. And every time someone tries to fix the broken system they get labelled a communist.

Unless we do something to lower the cost of prescription drugs, Americans will continue to pay inflated drug prices, effectively subsidizing the lower out of pocket costs for countries whose leaders have the backbone to negotiate drug prices.

My only prescription that I have to have, went from $11.00 too $78.00 last October.
Thanks trump!
I'm so sick of all this winning!

American prescription drug prices can only be described as insane, they are tens, hundreds sometimes even thousands of times higher than drug prices from other countries, like a vial of insulin only costs about $5 -$10 in many European countries but in America it costs about $300, like a bottle of nitrofurantoin costs less than a dollar in China but in America it costs $2400 - $2800 a bottle. Not to mention even an ambulance ride in America can cost you hundreds even thousands of dollars despite in many other countries it's free. This is what a for-profit healthcare system looks like. SAD!

Wow. Their Spring Break trip to Mexico to find cheap drugs is WAY different than mine was 20 years ago.

It's insane how he can straight up lie to constituents... Yet they believe him... At least the ones who doesn't need the meds

Pretty sad when the best reporting is coming from late night comedy!

Why it not completely illegal to jack up the price for insulin, speaks volumes as to the limitless greed of big pharma and the Republicans and establishment Democrats that work for them.

When trump says “do you believe that” the answer is almost always NO, because you can’t believe anything he says, especially when he can’t even tell if his lies are working so he has to ask the audience if they believe him

I am a Canadian who spent several months in Philadelphia early last year; I have the tendency to get chronic ear infections and just so happened to get one while stateside. The prescription ear drops I have used many times before that cost less than $50 Canadian were over $140 USD, same brand, same packaging, same volume. Absolutely shocking. I have never before encountered first hand such a clear example of a government’s absolute failure to address the basic needs of it’s citizens.

Disabled & on fixed income. My meds take 5th of check each month. Another 5th of it goes to copays & premiums each month. Plus I get treated like a criminal and face monthly drug test with being passed off to jump several hoops just to get the progress started 😐

He talks as if big drug companies are waiting for his call and say yes president we will do it. What a story. We call such person story teller or lying

When I was living in America, my insurance didn't pay for anything related to pregnancy, my OBGYN gave me 3 months to come up with $28, 000 cash, and told me to expect to pay them $65, 000 if I didn't have any complications. A simple urine test, you need to take weekly during the last trimester was over $200 in the US, when I moved to Canada it was $3 for me, the highest allowable price, since I was an uninsured and not a citizen here. For Canadian citizens it's all FREE. The doctors seemed to feel bad for charging me. Going to urgent care here to get a referral was $20 again because I was not a citizen and uninsured. Compared to Canada and the rest of the world America is a third world dump. With no insurance here and not being a citizen a pregnancy cost about $12, 000 and $9, 000 of that was the cost of 3 days in the maternity ward, the other $3, 000 was for the doctors, medicines, and tests. In America the greedy Doctor expected $65, 000 alone, imagine how much the hospital would expect, probably $50, 000 a day!

I had to get my gall bladder removed last year. Total cost for me, including 4 trips to the ER, 5 consultations with a doctor, 2 rides in an ambulance, an over night stay at the hospital post op, and the surgery itself - 200 dollars. Love me some Swedish universal health care.

Trump: Pfizer! What are you doing!? Lower the cost of your drugs!

Pfizer: Yeah... ok... thing, we'll get right on that...

Trump: *hangs up the phone* ... I did it! I'm so great!

Pfizer: LMAO

I used to have to deal with insurance companies and drug companies. _BOTH_ are to blame here, taking a shot at the drug companies is not a silver bullet to lower prices but its a good start.
