This really helpful! I have an 11yr old who is having difficulty with her behavior at school with other kids! Hitting back & forth, cussing each out, suspensions, and some bullying towards her. I’ve been getting calls for the past 2wks. I’ve gone to the school for support & the support team at school have not held their end. I’ve emailed the teacher to ask can she move her seating from the kids she is having trouble with. She is at this age where she seems to be struggling socially. I had her in therapy last year but the therapist wasn’t connecting with her & she was withdrawn during sessions so pulled her. I feel I need to get her in therapy again. Punishment seems to not phase her & due to her behavior she has been kicked out of her dance team. She never takes accountability for her part in the matters and it’s always someone else’s fault why she is trouble. She lies & it makes it hard for me to believe her but as her parent I still have her back. I’m saving this info cuz I’m sure I’ll need to refer back to it.

Amen! Thank you for this video. So frustrating to get a text almost every day about my 5yr old. The teacher is by herself with 23 students so I know it’s tough. I’m taking this serious.

My child is so good at home, but I’m constantly getting emails regarding her behavior at school. I feel like she’s being heavily influenced by a particular kid in her class, and it’s really been a problem all year.

Agree, at this point I would defently look for a reputable Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician and get a full evaluation. Join parent advocates and learn all the laws that are our parental rights and collaborate with the district.

My twins are having a hard time with school and their only 5.. started when they where 4 at this daycare they been at since 6month… well we’re two daycares in well I should say out, behavior program through meds at them and kicked them out, and now their in a head start program week 3 and it ain’t looking to good.. I done did AbA therapy, everywhere has a 1-2 year wait list for a peds psychologist, and the meds only make them sleepy don’t stop the behaviors and what gets me is that THEY ARE NOT LIKE THIS AT HOME, with my mom, at their dads or at karate they just got their yellow white belts, …

I’m not in denial, Im open to any advice (I’m going tomorrow to help with them in the class), we have routine at home, no major changes, no trauma and i take the resources available I just don’t know what to do anymore and I’m scared for their future, I want to nip this in the butt asap…

Hi Dr. Tomari, My daughter has sensory process disorder and this year we have noticed a big increase in negative behavior. She has had a difficult time socially with her peers and she is very much aware that she is different. Should I seek out side help to better understand what she is thinking or going through? Should i start off with working with the school and school counselor to come up with a plan to help better address the issue at hand. I have naturally been doing some " investigated work" to better understand the behavior in a holistic approach (sleep, food and environmentally) . One more question do you approach a child with SPD differently then other child?

How about the teachers who don't help the child in the best possible way..? This is a biased view I belive
