I wanted to see how Sweden did things. Not what Africa are doing with tires. Not even half the video was about Sweden.

USA, Suffolk, Va here. Interesting video. Finding a vendor that will buy and handle some products is a problem here. Our landfill in Suffolk accepts what garbage trucks bring in and just about anything a citizen takes to the landfill themselves, such as wood, trees and lawn waste. Metal, appliances, oil, paint and insecticides carried to the landfill by homeowners and businesses are recycled. Tires are shredded and placed in the landfill. The city has recycling day events and takes in tires for free to keep them from being illegally dumped. Only #2 and # 5 plastics that are collected by the curbside recyclers are packed up and sold to vendors. Other plastics that are placed in the curbside recycling bins go the landfill because there is not a vendor close enough to send it to. However, Green Piece and our Enviromental Protection Agency agree on one thing. More plastic is being produced and more plastic is being put in the landfills. Mother earth is drowning in plastic.

I did my practical term in gymnasium at Högdalen waste plant in the nineties. The chimney is one of highest building in Stockholm and when you take the elevator up to the top you are on the highest point in the city. Very interesting information.

Same system as 'Omrin' in Harlingen in the Netherlands.

Mostly drives on subsidies, importing waste from other. countries.

It's better then landfills, but many Swedes myself included are obviously disappointed that a lot of collected plastics, even that sorted out, is not reused but burnt. Of course it's good at least it doesn't end up in the environment, but being one of the countries with the very best collections and sorting of recyclable materials, we also want to see the results of it.

That's two episodes you've made about the tires recycling, that I know of. And have seen.

The Swedish part was interesting. I work on a similar plant here in Copenhagen

It is insane the US still uses land-fills....

I’d love to know how they separate out the metals at the first place since metal like copper and aluminum and brass are not magnetic. The second place needs some serious safety regulations

"Its important to sort your waste" Then it all goes in the same bin being burned :D hah

Thought it was funny the amount of red alarms they had 😅, most are probably ignored because they know that they aren't actually influencing the system and it hasn't been updated yet to reflect that.

0:00 What about the toxic gases released when incinerating. That's the BIG problem with that method of 'recycling'
9:02 Now that's good recycling of tyres.

No way does that little hydraulic cylinder make a 100 tons.

Law of conservation of mass, which states that matter cannot be created or destroyed, but can change forms. A ton of material goes in an incinerator, a ton of material will come out.

Concerning the tires, I would have thought the shaker would do the screening…

Our land fill are a good indication that we don't need all these merchandise that are manufacture and purchase....

Now the question is: what alternative energy & heat source is used when the plant is down for maintenance or an emergency shutdown is required??
