In Copenhagen, Denmark lies Amager Bakke, a unique power plant. Not only is it the world's cleanest waste-to-energy facility, it's also home to a man-made mountain called CopenHill with its own ski slope, the world's tallest climbing wall and challenging hiking trails up the building where you'll find the best views of Copenhagen.

Opened in October 2019, the building was designed Bjarke Ingels Group (aka BIG) with an aim to create a building that can "contribute positively to the city, become part of the city, and even to be a landmark of the capital". The plant serves 680,000 people and takes waste from up to 300 lorries each day. Its steam turbine produces 63MWh of energy, while its heat exchangers are used in a district heating system.

I am an engineer, it really is a great project with a positive impact for the environment and the city. Knowing that Copinhill is leading the waste-to-energy transformation, in addition to the population go skiing, is impressive.
It is the efficient way of managing waste that cannot be recycled into energy, capturing greenhouse gases and emitting only steam into the environment. Greetings and congratulations from Huancayo Peru

Seriously, this gets me pumped up. I don't know how sustainable this idea is long-term but I'm gonna study this for my thesis!

What if all theme parks committed to this philosophy? Space Mountain was fun. Trash Mountain could change the world ✌️❤️🎶

That is quite impressive. I would like to hike it, but I don't see myself visiting Denmark any time soon.

This something that needs to be done in the United States as well as other countries. We produce so much waste that's unrecyclable and send it to landfills then soon we are needing more landfill space after only a few short years. Even windmill blades are not recyclable and have to be shredded or burned. A power plant like this takes care of having to find more landfill space, produces energy in a much cleaner way and valuable land is saved for either farming, homes, industry or even just left alone for nature.

The Scandinavians and the Dutch always seen to be forward thinking and affluent. Why is it in the UK everything just seems stagnated. Or is it because of government interests that we remain the way we are?

2:08 very misleading (intentionally or not) to say it only "emits clean air and water vapor" when it does emit large quantities of CO2 as well
