Melanie refused to sell out. I respect her a ton for that. Great analysis.

For those who were truly "hip ", Melanie was a star in the 60's-70's

I love Melanie... Her music and her soul were there for me throughout my tumultuous youth... If you have not listened to Tuning My Guitar yet, I highly recommend it because it's another song that expresses her experience with the people who wanted to commercialise her. (And in French, she says: "They changed my son, Ma. They changed my song. It's the only thing that I can and it is no good. They changed my song. ) Another great one is Leftover Wine... My Rainbow Race is another great song later one from her that should have make a comeback. I am touched that a young man is listening to her and appreciating her in such a thoughtful way. I just subscribed. Blessings!

She put out a great album titled “Stoneground Words” in 1972 and 3 standout tracks are "Together Alone”, "Do You Believe” and "My Rainbow Race”. We very recently lost this fine lady, 1/23/24, RIP Melanie.

If asked... Name a serious Protest/Social Conscious song writer from the Melanie's name belongs in the conversation, if not number one.

One of my first crushes. Natural talent and beauty. Made me sad when she passed in January.

I remember Melanie's songs growing up in the 70's. She had hits such as "Brand New Key", "Ruby Tuesday", "Beautiful People", "Ring The Living Bell", "The Nickel Song", "Bitter Bad", "Together Alone", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" etc. "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)" was inspired by her experience of performing at the 1969 Woodstock music festival.

Haven't heard this in about fifty years, well met. Was a big hit in the sixties. Melody reminds me 1930s Cole Porter.

Always an emotional one for me! I miss Melanie so much. Have a listen to 'I Don't Eat Animals'. Although I think she did eventually😔

Nice read on the song JM, If I'm not mistaken, Neil Young got sued by his Record Co. for not sounding like Neil Young. Guess he was following his muse.

I see it even more in general:

"My Song" stands for my call, my profession, my talent in life - the only thing i truly believe in and therefore the only thing i am at least half way good at - and still this world destroys it!!

What shall i do with my responsibility to be fruitful - if i simple cannot find a good book for me to live in?

But maybe, one day tears will turn into triumphs (biblical!) - then i will be rich, Ma!"
