BALLOON FIESTA Albuquerque | From The Ground!

Almost 600 hot air balloons take off each year in early October during the Balloon Fiesta, which is the world's largest hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In this video we're highlighting all the main events of the Balloon Fiesta 2018. Join Tara, Georg and Liv and discover the early Dawn Patrol, the unfathomable Mass Ascension, the stunning Night Glow and the kids' highlight, the Special Shapes Rodeo. The world's largest hot air balloon festival had always been on our bucket list but little did we know this would be an experience of a lifetime!

I lived in Albuquerque before the Fiesta was officially organized and remember balloons floating over my neighborhood. The Fiesta has really grown. Hot air balloons are truly magical!

5:08 - Yay, you got the fractal balloons. There is a mathematician in ABQ who is obsessed with fractals. He did a fractal show at the 400th anniversary of ABQ at the science museum. It was such a hit that it continued afterwards, and the First Friday Fractal shows (3 showings) always sell out in hours every month. Most people have been 5+ times. I highly recommend it.

ABQ is such a beautiful town with a rich history and community. I miss that place.

Each Balloon Fiesta was spent with different friends and family. Always a sight to see, even from the rooftop at work.

I am planning on going to the 2023 Fiesta and watched MANY videos ... but this was one of the very very best! Excellent! I hope we have as much fun as it seemed you did! I liked it so much that I made a list of timestamps to the various parts of your video and include them here in case anyone else like jumping to a specific part of a video!
0:15 - Aching for Distant Places
0:35 - this is the world's largest balloon festival
0:40 - looking for the Dawn Patrol balloons
0:50 - Dawn Patrol lights up the dark
1:10 - Started with just 13 balloons in 1972 and now (2018) is nearly 600 balloons [2022 there were 648 balloons]
1:30 - average balloon is fueled by liquid propane, weighs about 600 pounds and is 80 feet tall (the size of a 7 story building)
2:00 - Mass Ascension is UNBELIEVABLE - they had a SLIGHT IDEA from watching YouTube videos, but standing in the midst of these 18th century aerial vehicles going up all around left us completely speechless!
2:52 - about $40, 000 for a typical 3 person balloon and basket. However the more exotic shape balloons cost anywhere from $120, 000 up to $400, 000.

4:00 - Tag Your Tots
4:25 - Going to the Night Glow - quite the spectacular sight - this is something not to miss with it's steady display of flames and colorful balloons!

6:20 - waking up at 3:30am can be a little early for some :)

7:00 - Special Shapes
7:10 - Yoda and Darth Vader
7:40 - Christ the Redeemer statue balloon

8:20 - Competitions - pilots must navigate to a designated target area
8:55 - helping get all the air OUT of a balloon (ie, rolling around on it)
