In October the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta creates an enchanted world of special shape balloon rodeos, twilight balloon glows, and vibrant balloon-filled skies.

Brisk autumnal mornings in the Rio Grande Valley create an otherworldly backdrop for the breathtaking majesty of our most popular event, Mass Ascension. The experience of watching hundreds of gentle airy giants take flight at once humbling and inspiring. It’s the allure of these magical moments and more that have continued to bring ballooning fans worldwide together for more than 51 years.

This is our story of the 2024 Balloon Fiesta where we took a ride with Rainbow Ryders in a Hot Air Balloon, get VIP treatment at the Gondola Club during the evening festivities and try out some of the most popular lunch spots in Albuquerque: Duran's Pharmacy and Central Grill and Coffee House

Born and raised in NM and I 💯 think this is definitely the best reason to visit. There is nothing like driving to work and the sky lit up with hundreds of balloons or even better, one landing in front of your house. Not to mention NM has the best chili aka breakfast burritos 😉 So glad you covered this event 💜 and a huge congrats on hitting 30k. Well deserved!! 🎉

It truly is something everyone should go to once. I lived there for 20 years and they would float right over my dads house. Yes the 3 am is something I’ll never forget but we did want to get front row parking since my parents were older. They land all over town and it’s so fun to chase them around. So even if you don’t want to deal with the crowd and costs there are still opportunities all over town. They will land in parks, on streets, in parking lots, and any open field they can find to safely land. Glad you got to go.

We’ve been to the Balloon fiesta 4 times, absolutely the best … we’ve gotten there as early as 3am, the attendees are super friendly and will ask you to pitch in and help during the launches definite bucket list item

Hey guys! So they started in 1972 with 13 and now over 500 balloons participate…I guess their success has really ballooned 😂. Ok that wasn’t one of my best jokes lol . Seriously what a cool experience. I’ve been up in one but it stayed stationary or tethered. You two are adventurous so was expecting you both to bungee jump from your balloon 🎈. Looks like an amazing time 😎😎😎

Used to live there for several years and always took one of the balloon rides. It’s so quiet up there you could talk to somebody 100 yards away like they were standing next to you awesome place.

Amazing! Glad to see y’all were a go for the hot air ride & fulfilled a bucket list wish. We did our first in Aspen, CO, on a sunny, cold winter day. The Albuquerque festival is so cool to see all the different shapes, colored balloons floating in the air.
