We have another classic from the Man Up Stand Up days. Shoutout Black Taoist, aka Novell Bell, for putting on these awesome matches in the 2010s. In this match, we have Stephon Flenoy vs Jay Mark. Stephon trains Wing Chun and Jay trains what looks like hybrid Karate Kickboxing from Tiger Schulmans. Let's see how these two styles match up in this awesome match. Let us know what you saw and what you learned, as well as any constructive criticism for these pioneers!

I was there that day. This fight was wild. The wing chun dude had his arm out like it was a shotgun for the whole match. Also Jay wasn’t a karate guy. He was Doing MMA back then. He switched to kickboxing but I haven’t heard from him in awhile so i don’t know if he’s still competing

The karate guy seems more of a MMA - kickboxing fighter than a regular karate guy. Either way good fight.

Neither of these guys are complete fighters. They DON’T BLOCK!!

I swear, sometimes these people who insist on that Man Sao guard being there go-to stance, forget that their asking hand is both a probe and an invitation to their opponent. Got to use it like it’s designed for, Which is having control over the start of the “conversation”.

I see you took my advice and looked over BT channel. You should try and find a way to talk to the man interview style

I don't see any fighting style, just two guys throwing fists at unskilled level

Good commentary considering all of what’s happening with you …

I find it so amusing that people think Wing Chun is a complete style and try to use it that way. In order to work that way you have to be extremely fast at closing the gap like Bruce was, and immediately get your hands on the opponent and put him off balance. A better plan for most people is to use it as part of your game, but usually it won't work as a complete style because it isn't.

Its very easy to see the wing chun guy doesn't have much fight experience, anyone who holds his hands out like that has been taught wing chun badly and doesnt truly know it. Perpetuating the idea that its just no good, rather than there are just bad practitioners.

bro, what is this wing chun guy even doing???? I'm very certain he's not even mid level wing chun or has even sparred often against other ppl....

palm up -攤手
palm inward- 問手
and I think, when kicks are allowed, Wing Chun guys should utilise more 截踢 (Stop brainwashing ourselves; it is too dangerous/ it will break the opponent's leg so I don't use it). Use it or lose it.

The wing chun guy needs more training/discipline. He could've ended the fight within 90 seconds. He didn't fight his fight. He needs to train harder on the wooden dummy!

Average college wrestler destroys both in under two minutes.

enuf with these 10 sec on the ground rules or 10 sec in clinch. its not realistic. fights are already unrealistic enough without low blows or strikes to the back of the head. with so many rules people get hurt worse. they are encouraged to wail away for much longer and get more hurt. if the fight goes to the ground it goes to the ground. thats how most fights should go...
