It's not the art, it's the fighter.

What i have come to learn is the real factor is the skill level of the fighter in whatever martial art they use.

I once watched an interview with a Wing Chun master who explained that Wing Chun isn’t particularly effective in tournaments. He pointed out that many of the techniques in Wing Chun are banned in competitive sports because they are designed to quickly and decisively disable an opponent causing serious harm. These moves can be extremely dangerous, potentially causing serious injury or even death. As a result, Wing Chun practitioners are limited in what they can use during tournaments, often leaving them at a disadvantage unless they supplement their skills with other disciplines like grappling. In essence, Wing Chun is meant for real-world combat and self-defense—situations without rules or referees, where the objective is to end a confrontation as swiftly and effectively as possible.

That last dude was the truth. His strikes HURT! Then he has power and quick, forward motion.

the thing is wing chun often uses flat hand and is for real life not for the ring with gloves

Wing Chun is a killing art and is not made for competition as most of its effective techniques are not allowed

Wing Chun is one of the responses you can use in fighting, like boxing is a response, Karate is a response, or BJJ or Muay Thai are all responses you can choose to use and train for a fight. Wing Chun by itself in MMA would do poorly, like Boxing by itself in MMA would do poorly, same for Muay Thai or BJJ by itself. Wing Chun can be very useful I think when it’s part of your systems or arts you use, but it shouldn’t be the only one. Wing Chun could be your main or “base” art for fighting or self-defense, but I think two things are key: cross-training and sparring against different styles.

So, from the comments...this video commentator doesn't fully know his styles of martial arts.

Wing Chun 🥋 is a dangerous art but the practitioners need to be more fluent like water as 💦 to adapt to modern day fighting styles 🥊 💨

a lot of these fights are a lot more on the practicioner than the art.

Most of these guys are afraid to strike, afraid to get hit and overall abandon their training the moment they feel pressure.

Wing chun has potential to be a good fighting art but they need to engage more in live sparring and less hitting wooden targets if they are to be taken seriously.

I really like the direct striking and close range blocking that they teach in wing chun if only they were more used to getting hit so they can use their training while being in pain or disoriented.
Also the totally stiff stance of just standing there waiting to get hit would have to be modified to be more fluid .

In this sense I think wing Chun if you were to stick stricly to its principles is more of a art . karate and kung fu Have much better practical uses on a fight.

Nonthieless Wing Chun is a very good way to learn and study for the reason of its simplicity of the forms and methods of self defense and the forms of the art .
