Great tutorial! As always. Very few people can explain Dodging and Burning in one minute.

I use the following: I create a blank layer, fill it with 50% Gray, set the blend mode to "Overlay", then use the D & B tools, as desired with the 50% Gray filled layer selected. I think you have more control this way, With D & B tools you have the Shadows, Midrange, and Highlights that can all be adjusted with the Flow and Brush-size, and you can control the Layer with a certain amount of Opacity or Fill.

Or use just one layer with 50% gray, blending mode overlay, paint with white/black and low opacity/flow.

Instead of the step where you fill the mask layer with black, gold alt when activating the mask to invert it to black already.

That's an easy way to do it but not a precise way. Luminosity masks are better but they take time to learn. I use Lumenzia but there's other plugins that work just as well.
