Elden Ring - How To Parry With Less Risk

Buckler still has the longest parry frames but a small shield is the best option for this tech. Once you get better you can ditch the block. For those who don't know you press L2/ left trigger to parry and R1 / light attack to riposte.

My video on how to choose a parry shield:

Detailed parry frame data:

TIMESTAMPS
00:00 Soldier
00:56 Margit

Combat Basics Playlist:

Note: Before commenting its only a partial parry, please pay attention to the video. The video shows blocks after a partial parry (soldier) and after an early parry (Margit) . Holding block allows the player to block the next hits in the chain because it instantly puts you in the block animation with no delay or reaction timing. It also allows you to setup parries without being exposed so its more beginner friendly. This is a method to learn how to parry and to use in critical situations (low HP) if necessary, its not an incentive to hide behind a shield to get your guard broken.

I started this channel with an idea to make short videos to help new players to the series. I never expected to have this many views, it's insane. I want to thank everyone that took their time to watch, comment, like and subscribe to my channel. <3

This dude gets my respect for including timestamps even for a 1:42 long video.

As several people pointed out in the comment section -> watch the arm not the weapon. This is a very good tip.

This is the first video that I’ve seen that’s actually useful to learn how to parry, a lot of posers dumping their content brain rot in here labeling it tutorial. Thanks for being a true one

For those struggling to see when the parry actually connects, just try parrying facing a wall. You'll see the sparks coming out when the parry connects. That's usually when the shield is placed in front of your chest, not when the shield is pushed to the side as one may intuitively think.

Here's my big tip - for the bigger knights (the lightning ones in leyndell, fire ones in Caelid etc, the ones with the feathers on their helm), they will nearly always guard counter when you attack their shield. These guard counters are extremely easy to parry. Light attack their shield, then parry the guard counter. Plus you only need to know the timing of the one attack.

Journey1: learning, get best ending...
Journey2: Play full questline, get another ending...
Journey3: I'm trying to parry everything ...

i always thought you had to catch it when the sword nearly comes into contact with your body, this was really helpful. Thanks for putting this up!! I really love shields in this game, they save you so many times

For a lot of enemies, I’ve learned when to roll or parry based on their feet, most of the attacks follow foot movements (a step before a heavy attack, a slight back step for quick attacks)

So helpful! I’ve been really struggling with parry in this game (even though it’s my favourite way to play Bloodborne). Enemies have a nasty mix of delayed attacks and attacks that come out so quick you almost need to preemptively parry. This will help a tonne with those types of attacks! I wish parries would come out just a little quicker though… then you could more reliably parry the super fast attacks too.

There is also an audio cue for most enemies. On the soldiers you can hear them grunt as they swing, that grunt is your cue to hit L2.

If you want a better idea of your shields parry window, go to an elevator that has walls close to you. Parry the wall as you elevate either up or down doesnt matter which. The sparks your shield creates is your parry window

This is one of the better videos based on a parry. You have officially gained a new subscriber. Thanks man you're a legend. Looking forward to seeing more content like this.

I heard someone recommend a tip to make parrying a bit easier. They said to watch the arm, not the weapon.

I avoided parrying because I missed up a lot and in these sort of games, messing up = death so thanks my dude! I can now parry with confidence!

Finally someone who’s explained how this mechanic works. I dropped my shield for dual wield since I started because I could never figure out how the parry worked. Thank you!

This would have taken 25 minutes for any other Youtuber to explain. You did it in 10 seconds and showed many examples afterwards. Respect

I had no idea you could parry with the shield while you had your guard up! This has been a game changer for me!
