The Saw Blade Knife - How to Make a Knife from a Saw blade

Thanks to Worksharp and the Drill Doctor for sponsoring this Saw Blade to Knife Build!

Today I'm building a custom knife from an old circular saw blade with no tempering required! In the video I go over how I cut out the knife blank from the saw blade, ground the blade profile, built the handle and sharpened it to an edge that will cut paper! This was a super fun build and hope it inspires you to make something new out of something old ;)
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Please go check out Worksharp Tools and the Drill Doctor!

That turned out really well! The mesquite handle looks great, and I agree on the aesthetics of the hollow pins. Awesome job!

I worked in a sawmill and made many knives for the mill workers. One day the boss told me to stop as one knife was pulled on someone at a pub the same day I made it. Haven't made one for many years now. Nice work, I may need to make one myself. Loved the hollow pin idea.

That was therapeutic to watch. For anyone puttering around the house looking for something to do, this looks like a great project.

Very cool, I made a knife in high school metal shop out of a leaf spring but this seems like a great project to do with my two daughters. Now I just need to get them into the shop again. Thank you for sharing, God Bless, stay safe and be well.

Another great project, Joe. Stay safe out there on the front lines. Hope and pray your family fares well during these unusual times. Never thought I'd be so busy on the farm during retirement, but everyone wants eggs and I'm planting more gardens to assure an adequate supply of food in the local area.

That turned out really nicely.
Clearly the saw blade was bigger than I originally thought when I commented on Instagram. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Nice work! Nothing "wrong" with using old saw blades or other tool steels for blades. I'd still re-quench the blade once it was profiled though. Use a torch to heat up just the "edge" and quench it in some preheated oil, then sand it clean again and temper it in an oven for a couple hours to get the best possible edge.

This one was awesome! I have some saw blades that I have kept for this reason. But never quite knew how exactly to do this. Now I know. Thank you!

I dig that a lot. I may just have try it. I always stayed away from it because I thought you needed a forge. I have the same sharpener already and some old saw blades laying around. Thanks for the informative and educational video.
