The loudest meowing I've ever heard, then hissing, then ATTACK

I have no idea how to deal with cats as many savvy YouTubers have pointed out. It's my friend's cat. I've never had a cat and have never claimed to be a professional cat wrangler.
This particular cat's name is Toulouse, and he is a very healthy, happy (if slightly maladjusted) house cat who had a rough kittenhood. We get along fine now.

A few years ago I was visiting my sister on the opposite coast of the US. She had me sleep on a fold out sofa bed in her home office. When I was just starting to drift off I heard what I thought was a baby crying. I thought at first in my semi-conscious state that the sound was from a neighbor, as it was summer and the windows were open. Then I realized it was coming from inside the house and wondered who on earth my sister knew who had a baby and why hadn't she told me they were also visiting. But then I realized as I finally was fully awake that this wasn't a baby; this was a cat who was protesting the fact that a favorite kitty night time spot was occupied. I very quietly said the cat's name and he ran out of the room faster than if he was running the Boston Marathon.
