Labour Party Conference: Rachel Reeves' Speech Interrupted by Protesters

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves’ speech was briefly interrupted by protesters. One activist stood up, unveiled a banner and shouted that Britain should stop arming Israel, before being bundled out by security guards.

The offender assaulted the heckler around the neck. Ask yourself if someone had done that to a police officer, especially during the recent riots, how many years would they be looking at? Reeves just stood by gloating and grinning trying desperately to remember the line to trot out.

Irrespective of whether you agree with Rachel Reeves or the protesters the security personnel or those who thought they would act as if they were security should never grab protesters by the neck. Guidance to security personnel specifically states that force should not be used on the neck due to the risk of severe injury. In this case in particular it can be seen that the protesters were not violent and therefore the force used on them was excessive, not proportional and therefore unlawful. Will we see Labour or the Police take suitable action against those who used excessive force, I very much doubt it.
