The hole punch goes even LOWER than the notch does. That does the opposite of add more screen real estate. Plus, if they’re still not gonna allow us to see the battery percentage in the top right, shrinking the notch is pointless. That’s what I miss most about pre-notch iPhones.

Honestly, I was planning on getting a iphone 13 mini previously. Looking at the new 14s, I'll probably end up buying a 13 mini when the price drops when the new phones come out. The smaller form factor just seems a lot more important than the seemingly minor upgrades.

A few years ago I cared deeply about always having a flagship phone .... like perhaps for a decade. Then something just changed. I now still have a samsung s10 ... and it still works great ... I feel like I miss nothing. I feel like the golden age of cellular technology has passed (at least for me ... likely it is different for younger generations). But I still watch these videos ... I find them very interesting :)

Great call! They’ve already done it before with the iPad Pro, essentially renaming the A12X chip to A12Z + unlocking one gpu core.

I love my Apple phones but I am upgrading every 3 years, not every year as the improvements are incremental. Last new one I bought was the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Still working great with the original battery. It had 5g so there was something I wanted. I don’t believe Apples marketing team have a line that they won’t cross at this point. They will earn their money at launch selling new phones with old processors. Most consumers won’t be able to tell the difference though!

This is obviously just my impressions, but I feel like the current way the iPhone lineup is seen is that you have the iPhone, which is a high end, premium phone. And then you have the iPhone Pro which is where Apple goes "the extra mile" to add for additional features for those who "really want them."

What Apple needs to do is to make it feel like the iPhone 14 took one step forward and the iPhone 14 Pro took 2 steps forward instead of making it feel like the iPhone 14 was held back and has no improvements while the iPhone 14 Pro took the yearly single step forward.

I think there should honestly be less of a demand of a "new" phone every year. It's hit a ceiling at this point where phones seldom can really get much better than they are. And with the chip shortage, there should be more of a honest push for waiting more than a single year for a "newer" phone.

honestly, i’m rocking an iPhone 12 and I think that’s gonna last me for 5 years or so

unless there’s a big tech leap in the next years, a phone should last enough so that it’s enviromental impact is as little as possible, which means it should get updated not only on safety features, but also on software optimization matters

All I can see is that iPhone models get more and more complicated: pro, max, mixed chipsets. Soon we’ll have iPhone 16 TI SE (LE) EU version A (no 6G).

Had been buying plus max models until my most recent purchase of 13 mini as an experiment. I think consumers are afraid of going smaller because they think they'll be losing something. But the mini is the best phone choice I've made in many phone cycles now. And I realise the importance of a small, light, one hand phone over the others, that still has all the pros of the bigger ones.

Apple actually pays very little for what they get when it comes to chips because of in-house design (chips from vendors usually have a 60+% mark up) and scale. Plus they have tight control and save on every bit of silicon if they don't need it for their specific application (optimization for a few devices is far easier and cheaper than designing a general purpose chip)

Still using a XR, since 2018. It’s holding up good enough that I’m keeping it until usb-c comes to iPhones. Though it has started to chug a bit, also the cameras are noticeably worse than my friends’ newer phones- specifically zoom sucks

I was really hoping that the rumors of apple finally switching to a usb c port were true. The iPhone 14 just seems really disappointing
