Should a Woman Who is Pregnant or Breastfeeding do Intermittent Fasting?

In this video, I want to answer a few questions I received about intermittent fasting and pregnancy. Is fasting safe for pregnant women? Can keto be safe in pregnancy? What should pregnant women eat?

I do not recommend intermittent fasting for pregnant and breastfeeding women because if there are preexisting subclinical nutrient deficiencies, these deficiencies will be magnified. 

It is true that when you do intermittent fasting, your nutrient requirements go down. But, fasting while pregnant or breastfeeding and fasting is still not recommended because the mother needs to make sure she’s getting all of the nutrients she needs. She is eating for two now. 

Having cravings during pregnancy is actually a sign of a nutritional deficiency.  

Is keto safe in pregnancy? Yes, I do recommend healthy keto for a healthy pregnancy for two reasons:

• It will help protect the mother against insulin resistance and diabetes (and will ultimately protect the child against diabetes)
• What a woman eats during pregnancy determines the future health of her child

• Eggs – Protein, Vitamins, Minerals

I'm both pregnant and breastfeeding; and I love fasting. I don't eat til like noon or 2pm and it has helped a lot with morning sickness. And easier to introduce water at first. I had a pica and ate soap when I had iron deficiency anemia. But now, I fast, eat later, take my vitamins and feel so much better and energetic.

I started doing Keto during the last trimester of my last pregnancy and it helped so much with my sleep, nausea and blood sugar levels. The only pain I had was pelvic pain.

I already knew the answer is No because pregnant women and who breastfeed aren't required to fast Ramadan and with all due respect to Dr. Berg if he said yes I wouldn't trust that answer but gladly he agrees with the truthful guidelines of Islam

That explains they why of my horrible symptoms . Thank you so much for making this video. I am currently breastfeeding a 7 month old baby. Two weeks ago I started to do intermittent fasting. I am getting horrible headaches, my mood has changed on top of that got my period. I felt like I was going to faint constantly... Thank you so much.

I have no cravings, not hungry, I'm in 2nd trimester and for digestion reasons I'm fasting 16hrs. My body needs it or it wouldn't have a hard time digesting. But to each their own I eat for me & the small avocado size baby so don't need much when food is nutritionally dense.

I had two babies where I ate a lot of carbs and my son has health issues and my daughter was just born big otherwise is ok. My other daughter I did keto for 5 months and then grain free and sugar free for the rest of pregnancy and she was 6 pounds and she's almost 3 and the smartest toddler I have ever seen. She can count to ten knows her ABCs and can talk extremely well in full sentences and can point out all letters in a book

Awww, seriously my favorite video thus far! My son is almost 2, and he's still nursing. I give him fermented cod liver butter oil, and he likes to have brewer's yeast on his organic popcorn.

We also try to use only sprouted grains, nuts and seeds and eat sourdough bread--but not too much of it. He usually has one slice every three days. He eats lots of greek, full-fat very low sugar yogurt, berries, fish and veggies, lots of cheese and butter.
