If america was invaded i would have the motivation to try and learn as much as i can and im sure i would be given the same or less training but i would make the most of it the one thing no one puts into the equation is the human factor of defending your home

People automatically think that every NATO country has the same training regime. No, almost none of them are as good as US. Yes, there are select units in other countries which are better than some units in US, but on scale, US is the champion of well trained and well equipped troops.

Now, if countries can't be equal in US training peacetime, than Ukraine can't be equal to US in training. It’s still better than what Russia or China gives. So it’s not panickworthy.

Some analysts say that one of the problems of NATO trained ukranians is that the NATO troops had too much experience in small unit operations but very little in large scale operations, after 20 years of chasing guerrillas in Iraq and Afghanistan were the bigest operations involved less than a batallion and most of the time just companies or platoons, the ukranians learn that way and in the last failed ofensive were much sucesful with small dismounted infantry units than with big armored formations, NATO also ´´ handpicked ´´ some young ukranian oficers as brigade comanders instead of old ´´ soviet ´´ oficers.

Ukraine is going to win. Just depends on how much blood it's going to take for Russia to leave.

On the Job Training just like we did in previous wars. During Vietnam, the US had guys moved to jobs they werent trained for or their stateside training didnt focus on.

It would be weird if we weren't hanging on to the best English speakers to become part of the training apparatus, and even weirder if a couple of brigades worth of their guys didn't opt to stick around for the original long haul training sequence.

An extra $6 billion for Ukraine means an extra $600 million for The Big Guy.

I would think operational needs necessitate a crash course, I doubt Ukraine can afford to send 1000s of infantry soldiers out for 20+ weeks at a time

Thanks for the video. To the best of my knowledge NATO trained Ukrainian troops for the most part continue their training once they return home, to further and enhance what they have been taught abroad. I think the priority is to accelerate the turn around time to get as many troops trained in basic skills in the least time possible. I remember my basic training as a combat engineer in the UK where we were also taught lots of stuff that was never needed for day to day use. Judging by the respect shown by NATO instructors to Ukrainian soldiers after their training, the system is working well under the circumstances. Whether the instruction regarding IED's and mine clearance is adequate will be shown during the ongoing Ukrainian offensive but I really hope they have the equipment and skills needed to deal with the task.

I saw a video sometime a few years ago (prior to present hot war) where a Western news crew was filming in some city in Donetsk and a bunch of Ukrainian troops were pushing rapidly forward when a black soldier runs up in a Ukrainian uniform and when the news reporter shoved a mic in his face, he shouted in English in a very urban south accent "get that mic outta my face!"
Oh US Army SF, you do show up in the most interesting places...

America should have thought this out a lot better. I was shocked when you said 6 to 7 weeks and were giving it to them in 6 to 7 days. We should feel embarrassed about the training were giving them for the time table. I would expect Russia to do something like this not America. Shame on us for doing that and shame on whoever thought that was a great idea. Hell sounds like the person who said blah you do not need to learn how to land just aim at the buildings. Prior to 9/11/01.

I would surely hope that we are at the very least we give them the best possible assistance for survival training escape and evasion. Combat in Urban, forest, snow, and water born combat types, along with winter survival and the other appropriate types of combat the Ukraine military will be facing. I would have thought that he Military trainers would have been fluent in Ukraine or at the very least interpreter's for them to listen to. Also all the other appropriate medical and logistical training. They do not need to know all of our ways of training especially if there going to be giving each troop the same training. the American government should at the very least have printed these up in there languages.

Logistics can be a real pain, but with what if worth is performing effectively! Slava Ukraine

Look at the Der Spiegel article, Germany publication. (This from a Redacted piece on Der Spiegel article)

At the same time, Germany’s top newspaper Der Spiegel published a story about Ukrainian troops using the Leopard 2A6 tanks saying that sometimes crews fake equipment failures so that they don’t have to go into battle.

"For the enemy, we are always the first target, " one tank commander said.

The three other soldiers that spoke to Der Spiegel say that they don’t blame one another for doing that. Who can blame them for not being convicted to die for a mission to take back land that voted to be a part of Russia? Plus, they are not set up to win. One of them says that he has to use lasers to aim because the controls in the tank are in German and the amount of training he had from the Germans amounted to 15 minutes of yelling in German and the only thing they understood being: “Flip the switch.” After that, they took them to a loud club to help them to forget the task at hand.

One soldier’s heartbreaking summary hits hard: “"It’s better to refuse to go into battle than to chicken out in the middle of the fight.”

crazy, it’s almost as if everyone with a realistic view knew that both sides of this conflict are inept (see the 2 out of 3 Ukrainian Leopards destroyed within their first engagements or the Russians losing their flagship)
