With tears streaming down my face, I am deeply moved by this flawless rendition. I was born in New Zealand and relocated to Australia in 2012 to seek refuge from abusive family members. While the initial years were positive, the past decade has left me longing for my homeland, yearning for that sense of completeness that only fellow New Zealanders can truly comprehend.

I genuinely wish I had the financial means to return, and the fear of passing away in a foreign land weighs heavily on my heart. However, I recognize that life often presents us with challenging choices, and sometimes we must make significant sacrifices, even if they deviate from our desires or needs.

Only came across this version by accident about a month ago. Love the English version, but in Te Reo, has me bawling my eyes out! And I'm not a Kiwi, but an Aussie import of 16 years. It's been getting thrashed on my Spotify ever since, I'm trying to learn it in Maori. About halfway there, so I'll just keep working away at it. You are an absolute delight to listen to, Sir Dave, and your music ALWAYS lifts my spirits. I walk around singing to myself with a big grin on my face.

Has there ever been a more modest, humble and authentic singer than Dave Dobbyn? He makes me wish I was from New Zealand as the grass seems greener over the side of our neighbour's fence (Australia). Sadly Australians seem to becoming more Americanised than any other influence from overseas. Dave's album Loyal remains in my top ten favourite albums (I own over 3000). He speaks directly to the listener without any crap. So I'll be loyal and love him like I should.

Seeing this makes me even more proud to be a kiwi. I've had the chance to meet Dave at my work and I am really grateful for that opportunity. Thank you for inspiring me, my generation for being the legend you are.

Listening to this reminds me why I love this beautiful country of ours... Australia and the USA, love and respect your indigenous people; most importantly engage in their traditions and culture. I am of Samoan descent, but my love for Te Ao Maori as well as Tikanga is something I hold dearly, purely for the fact that I am a New Zealander... thank you Mr. Dobbyn, you da man!!

This song is beautiful in English and now in Maori...I heard this version somewhere else and mistook Dave's voice for a Kuia. LOL I'm thinking this song should be introduced and taught in schools...I grew up on DD Smash and Dave...I have lots of love for his music and his wairua.

So much soul and love expressed through Te Reo this song is beautiful but in this language it’s so hard not to ball my eyes out it’s just so much more expressive

times pass me by, and I forget - important things, I should remember; like: I'm KIWI.
Thanks, Dave, for reminding me.

This, and the pakeha originator/version (note that music video's use of flags as symbols), is part of what makes me proud to live in these motu. Kei te pai to Dave for having the reo - whether just from memory or not - to make this anthem of welcome even more "of this land". Kiaora.
