3:30 No I don’t believe that’s the way to go. Charging the battery using the ICE eliminates the saving you’d get from plugging in. The point is to minimize the use of an inefficient engine that’s under 40% efficient. It’s common knowledge in the automotive world by now that if you buy a PHEV, you should try to plug it in whenever possible. Some PHEV’s get even worse fuel economy than the conventional ICE when not plugged in. For people who don’t want to plug in, don’t buy a plug-in.
