It was blocked yes but you see in the shots that the weapon Mando uses heats up almost to the point of melting which I think was the compromise to that situation. Besides the comics already say that certain vibroblades could block lightsabers without much damage.

Ironically George is the one who gave us magnaguards with staffs that could...block lightsabers

This is interesting considering that in Legends continuity, Mandalorians had sabers made of Beskar iron... which presumably would have been enough to withstand a lightsaber

Only OGs remember when the Darksaber refered to a copy of the Death Star's main weapon. A tube like space station the Hutts built using cheap labour. And when they tried to fire it, it turned out to be slightly crooked which caused the beam to hit a wall and blow up the entire thing

If it is a blade made from mandalorian beskar, it is at least light saber resistent. In the books Jaina Solo dual wielded a lightsaber and beskar saber when fighting a Sith Lord

I wish we had more canon content on beskar weapons. My initial thought is that while beskar can pierce beskar, it would be almost equivalent to irl titanium in that it makes great armor, but poor weapons (namely can't hold an edge). Isn't it also supposed to be heavier than irl steel? Also, another irony/hypocrisy is that the armorer says beskar shouldn't be used for weapons, yet proceeds to use her hammer as a weapon.

Which do you prefer? Lightsabers being able to be blocked by only energy fields or certain materials being highly resistant?

I'm on the Fence myself about it. On the 1 hand I like the idea that only energy fields could effectively parry sabers. On the other having material that can do that as well opens up narrative possibilities.
