The Japanese internet is the epitome of "taking things too far."

The lawyer was a ignorant idiot, but he didn't deserve years of harassment. To be honest, he made the best of the situation. I imagine others may have committed "non-ceremonial seppuku" under such pressure.

Defacing his family member's grave is super low. What kind of person would do that?

It's one thing to make a shitpost making fun of someone, but it's really weird when people actually ruin their lives with long prison sentences in the name of messing with someone. It's like wow, you sure showed him by going to jail for 8 years.

WTF is wrong with people? Why would you risk going to jail just to make fun of some dude? Also only 4 years for threatening the whole government!

I’m astonished that the student inadvertently drew the attention of his trolls to his lawyer

Karasawa didn't work in his father's law firm. His father is an accountant, not an attorney. It's probably true, though, that he depended on his father's financial resources for almost everything in his life. I've also seen rumors that his father was paying rent for the space Karasawa's law firm occupied, but I haven't confirmed this.

imagine if he actually *was* responsible for one, nobody would've even suspected him

Thats another level of taking things too far, what utter weirdos. If the troll annoyed them all so much, they should be glad to know theyre obviously far worse.

I feel bad for the lawyer. Imagine if all of those people used that energy to do something that helped the world or society, instead of trying to ruin some random idiot lawyer's life.

The internet is a pandora's box at best, and that's solely because of the nature of the people who use it.

Apparently bomb threats from his trolls reached as far as Korea and even the Philippines, the authorities oblivious to the whole trollimg campaign

What’s truly malicious is that someone repeatedly sent resumes with Yagami’s real name to various companies across Japan, including the most famous yakuza office in Japan, the Yamaguchi-gumi. Because of this, the name ‘Ryota Nagase’ — Yagami’s real name — has become so tainted that some companies now automatically reject anyone with that name. Apparently, though, the Yamaguchi-gumi politely declined.

It is said that this incident advanced online harassment methods by ten years.
One of the worst forms of harassment involved spreading a rumor that an orgy party was taking place at the Yagami’s family home, which actually led to gathering numerous people. Some people attempted to enter the house and there is a photo of many cars lined up in front of the house.

Omg, VERY excited for a new Japanalysis video.
I live in Japan but the context of so much current news slips past me. It was thanks to you that I learnt about the Big Motor fiasco, the scamming lady, and the NHK politician - Even though I saw them often on the news I had no idea what was the story.
I rave about your channel to anyone who will listen.
