Phase shifts of trigonometric functions

👉 Learn the basics of graphing trigonometric functions. The graphs of trigonometric functions are cyclical graphs which repeats itself for every period. To graph the parent graph of a trigonometric function, we first identify the critical points which includes: the x-intercepts, the maximum/minimum values, the asymptotes and any other important feature of the graph of the trigonometric function. After obtaining these points we then plot the points on the x-y coordinate plane and graph accordingly.

After we have graphed the parent graph, we then apply the required transformations to the parent graph to obtain the required graph. The amplitude is the maximum point on the graph, the period is the distance/time for a complete oscillation, the phase shift is the horizontal shift from the parent function, the vertical shift is the vertical shift from the parent function.

Did he say shift it to the left twice between .23-.35 sec in the video?

"if C is positive you are gonna shift it to the left, and if sh--C is negative you are going to shift it to the... left.

I love your video's Im going to the 10th grade and right now im preparing to learn algebra II and Trig so I want to be ahead of class and in addition geometry, precalulus and calculus I, II and III as well, love your vids and keep doing what you are doing.

what if there was a problem like y=2cos(x/2/- π/4) ? would b be 1/2? so the new phase shift would be π/2? please

u said phase shift=(c/b) but u did (-c/b).i think the equation should be like y=asin(bx+(-c))

phase shifts are opposite of what you think they would be. (-pi/2 would move the graph to the left pi/2 )...not to the right

i have always heard that the generalized equation for that phase shift is -c/b. anyone else?
