Phase Shift of Sine & Cosine Graphs (Sinusoidal Waves) - [2-21-13]

Показать описание

In this lesson, you will learn how to write down and understand how to phase shift a sine and cosine graph. This is important when we use sin and cos to write down a traveling wave such as an electromagnetic wave. These phase shifts will be used to mathematically describe how sinusoidal waves travel. This is used in engineering, math, and science fields.

Hi Mr. Gibson, Thank you for another great video! I was wondering if you would cover some aero/rocket science and the mechanics of it in a future video? Thanks

This is how math should be learned. Instead of memorization, we should be learning the "why?".

Yes, the phase shift of pi or 90degres, the waves cancel each other, kkkk I remember that now, wow has been while! Thank you again!

I’m about to take calc 1 for an EE so I’m trying to think about this in those terms. To be clear the phase shift of pi/2 is specifically a quarter period so if a period was 1/60 of a second (60hz) it would be 1/240 yes??

Awesome video! But you didn't cover what happens when you have both a frequency (or period) change and a phase shift. There seems to be something special about it, which for the life of me I've not been able to understand. E.g. if you have Asin(Bx+C) then somehow the phase shift is not C but C/B. Haven't been able to find an explanation of this that really clicks.

I think phase shift of 180°, is also termed as phase inversion.
