This is the most streak proof black paint I’ve ever used!! In this detailed boho furniture flip I use valspar cabinet and furniture oil enriched enamel that is a soap and water clean up paint! I scratch tested a can of oops paint at lowes and discovered this ultra rock hard paint for $2.50! I then ran back to lowes to buy it in black for $25.99 and I found the most streak free black I’ve ever used! Follow along as I share my method for a brush stroke free finish that will stand the test of time.

Products used

Dawn Dish soap and water to clean piece
325 grit sanding paper and sponge
Tack cloth
Roll of faux cane Amazon
Valspar cabinet and furniture enamel in Satin finish- make sure you get Satin finish as I read that semi gloss can be feel sticky even when dry plus Satin is a very durable but still has a slight sheen -Color was caviar. I buy this paint at lowes)

Use a sharp razor blade to cut the round end off your foam roller so you have a squared-off edge for painting against trim or into crevices.

I am a newbie painter and am going to try this! Thank you! Also, take a nail and hammer a few holes in the inner lip of the can so it will drip back into it. It helps with side drip!

Really glad I found (and subscribed) to your channel! Love the content, love the vibe. And I’m finding it SO refreshing that you don’t have music.

I am using this paint in Natural Tan on kitchen cabinets. I tried just rolling bit it’s hard to get a decent amount on the surface. Your method of brushing first and then rolling worked the best.

I've used this paint and like it. However, there is a learning curve, especially if you're used to painting with chalk paint. I messed it up a couple of times because I had to restrain myself from over-working the paint once it has started to dry. I ultimately had success with a foam roller, thin coats, and using a finishing pad between coats... and then walk away, don't touch it, don't look back. Wait at least 9h between coats.

Someone said you talk too much -- they were WRONG! It's very helpful that you tell us just what you're doing, and why. No background music? It's better this way -- no distractions. I also appreciate your comments regarding your work area, it encourages those of us who don't have adequate or dedicated space for these projects. Would you please show or talk about storing your supplies?
It's clear you have the heart of a teacher. Great work, lovely cabinet! Thank you!

Someone said " you talk too much ", BUT, You are so thorough and very knowledgeable and I appreciate your ability to get your methods across!!! I think if you go to a sprayer this paint looks like a great consistency to possibly not have to thin it out!!! You are my GO TO as I love your way of doing things. I hope you won't mind my copying your techniques! I absolutely loved how you and your daughter refurbished her nightstand...Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing your KNOWLEDGE!!!

What do you think of the updated version of this paint?

I used to love it and they changed the formula to dry faster… not a big fan

Valspar Cabinet and Furniture paint is my favorite. The durability is awesome. The finish looks as close to a factory finish as you can get IMHO. I no longer use chalk, mineral, or milk paint on furniture.

Beautiful job! And you answered a long standing mystery. I spot shellacked areas on a dresser but still had shiny streaks in the paint finish. I hadn’t lightly sanded the shellac. Know I know. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.

Your piece is fabulous! Love the burlap and the idea to write your shopping list on the glass. As a retired teacher, I use dry erase markers on the glass in my kitchen!! Congratulations.

Just beautiful. And you are the cutest thing ever! Thank you so much for sharing your skills and everything you're learning. You almost inspired me to paint my peacock blue kitchen cabinets... I rent, and when I walked in all the air got sucked out of the room. I thought, well, I'll get to painting those right away. 7 years later, still peacock blue.

Finally! That is the best explication of why and when people prime or don’t prime. Thank you !!

So many things from car-refinishing transfer across to furniture refinishing - E.G for filling them little dings & nicks, air-dry single pack putty is perfect - it fills small holes, bonds tight & sands smooth - comes in handy little tubes too. Prepping for paint is much the same for any substrate, so car-refinishing products can be super-handy when repurposed for furniture refinishing.

I love the black finish you got from the new paint. And the burlap on the doors was a great touch.

I'm a lot like you! I've used a number of different kinds of paint and i can't say that I've had very good experience with Valspar. I will agree that Valspar does take a long time to dry!! No matter what application you're using it for. Just based on the dry time and the clean up(oil based). There are way to many other options out there that are much easier to work with.
