How to Thin Paint for Paint Sprayer

first refer to the user manual for the paint sprayer to find the runout time for the material you're using.

I start with 3 parts paint and 1 part water. After that I test the runout time and add water as needed. This works well and I have been able to thin my paint for my Wagner sprayer very easily over the years.

So in 10 seconds you learn to thin paint with whatever the base is. Acrylic and latex use water and oil use paint thinner or mineral spirits. Which are pretty close to one another and can be mixed together.

Use flortrol instead of water its amazing and does not compromise paint quality and durability

Have you try it with BEHR Marquee paint, they recommend 8oz of water per gallon and airless sprayer. But I wonder if it would still work with air sprayer

Thank you for this detailed video! I was having terrible results with some Behr paint that said to thin no more than half a pint to the gallon (15 parts paint to 1 part water) for air spraying (splattering like orange peel spray). 1 part water to 3 parts paint like this video made the paint nice and flat. Just have to know not to put down too thick or it will run. Light coats. I am wondering why Behr recommends what appears to be an impossible flow rate? Am I wrong to thin the paint more?

Will that cause inevitable drip/paint run?? Have you ever use politur in it?

Excellent video. Do you use the same ratio(3:1) to thin epoxy enamel paints for painting metal.

It sucks having to thin and get so many things dirt before starting

25 to 40 seconds is a big variation .. What did you end up sticking with ? 25 second runout seems way too thin.

What is that thing you’re using to check the time?

Do you have to check every can even if it’s the same brand and color? Can they vary by the can?

You are adding way too much water! This is a total violation of the manufacturers, recommendations and will seriously degrade the integrity of the paint finish.
