Im not ever super religious but this sort of irritates me as an answer. Because the idea of a soul is something intangible and ineffable and beyond comprehension. Is the invisible and eternal consciousness thst exists beyong death. So no one is claiming it has mass or has anything to do with the neurons or electrons that affect your brain. I myself think that consciousness is only taking place in your brain. But people who believe in souls would never say "oh the soul doesnt affect physics? I guess god is dead"

Insinuating that the soul interacts with matter is already missing the point

He’s basing his argument on the assumption that a human soul is a material object when most would agree it’s metaphysical

His answer is based in knowlege. His answer spews logic entirely with no room for faith, because his studies arent involving faith as a varriable nor even a factor. Hes a scientist I would expect such a correct answer from a scientist.

You guys are slow. His answer, as he clearly implied, was based on the assumption that the 'soul' is housed inside the body in response to what Joe Rogan said. If something is said to be 'inside' something else, that inherently implies certain properties and limitations, such as the need to interact with matter in some way. This sets measurable expectations

My favorite scientific definition for a soul is the one from Sword Art Online (the human soul being the energy flowing through synapses in the brain).

Counter argument. The body works independently of the presence of a soul, but the mind and consciousness are animated by the presence of a soul

He is saying that if something else other than matter was in our bodies, we would have at least found traces of it by now. We lack evidence to prove it's real; maybe you can stay optimistic and say that our consciousness isn't just electrons and nuerons. We will know for sure in the far future

"Maybe there's something beyond matter"
"We measured matter and didn't see it"

Everyone has a unique brain and experiences. Mix the two and you have the illusion of a soul

for the soul to exist in the body there needs to be a enforcer who is beyond classical logic to enable the interaction of opposing substances

Can we scientifically measure our thoughts and memories? Because I feel like a soul would be something more like that rather than anything physically tangible.

Because you cannot measure something doesn't mean it is not there. All us brothers and sisters have a soul. And i pray that you are happy today!

Why is he under the notion that a soul exists in sync with the entire body? Who ever said that the soul is a humanoid projection in 1:1 ratio with human anatomy?

I think that's a lot of confidence in our measuring

He’s correct if it was a such thing science would have found it by now

I believe the soul doesn’t interact with matter it interacts with brainwaves and emotions. Your soul doesn’t directly control you it is you your body can just go through the motions even if your soul doesn’t agree with it at times. This is the concept of a conscious

Materialists thinks he can exclude what he doesn't know how to measure " 21 Ounces. "

its crazy to me that people can be so intelligent but be seemingly far away
