Both surfaces must be hot enough to accept the solder. If only one side is hot enough to melt the solder and the other isn't then that's cold soldering. Im constantly telling my (new) plumbers this all the time.

For overhead or T-joints, I recommend using stainless mesh.

I’m a hvac contractor I use it to repair coils that hold 400 psi gas pressure! Works great!

But if your gonna try and braze anything that had oil in it then you need to clean out the inside very well first! The flame pulls the oil to your repair and you will have problems! I find I have to flush the coil first then I have no issues.

It's because you're fitting is made out of stainless not aluminum

When you weld using rod like that use a flux it will give the aluminum something to follow if not heat both pieces of metal at same time first before applying the rod once the pieces are heated then apply the rods the heat will draw the rod to it.

I used this product on a high pressure A/C line on my son’s Lexus in 2018 and it’s still ice cold 2024

You did WELL. for a beginner, you're a lot smarter than most of the advisor who can crank up their mouth's, BUT, provide NO solution; I'm a beginner also and like you I found out the hard way, both pieces MUST be heated to a proper temperature where it will melt the Aluminum Rod onto to the pieces being welded, Not melt the ROD onto the welding area; I'm trying to weld some perforated Aluminum pieces to make a box; however, i'm not schooled in MIG or TIG and right now my budget is lower than the welds i'm trying to create; i'm in the South and those Aluminum Rods cost me $10.00 for 3 with the tax, BUT, I'v learned just like YOU; Don't give up stay at it..Mike C.

I've had a few sticks around some time. Made an aluminum dog framed door. Seemed to work but with any level of stress it came apart... no issue heating both parts to temp. I have in the past soldered parts that will not come apart in a vice?? So I'm thinking it's a hit and miss. I can't do that when I've spent hrs on a project and am counting on a product$$. In your process, it seems to be plenty strong for what it is. There's always JB weld for leaks. I need to find something more forgiving than the Freight Good honest video!!

As a person who has done a lot of soldering wires on aircraft parts and connectors over the years… I am very attracted to this! It is just like soldering.

Just like with painting… it is all in the prep work. Then after that, add some flux to allow it to clean itself further AND flux tells the solder where to go. Get it hot enough but not too hot.

Then Boom…

I saw a guy testing these rods. The thick aluminum bend before the wield broke. Which means it will be perfect for spots on my job boat.

You need a flux for it to work best. Ive been making ac lines using flux cored rod for 20 years. The fluxless rods wont seal and will fail

you can weld small tanks without fear of exploding by using hot air from a soldering station.. mine goes uo to just over 800

Almost looked like cooper soldering which doesn't take much to get good at so could be same thing.
