haha, I love that part where they were talking about the Navara but showed a shot of the D-max instead at 4:37!

I use to own double cab hilux 2.7 petrol for around 5 years it was a bulletproof engine and I could not speak highly enough of it, towed well and went like cut cat with a 5speed manual transmission . Went better than most ever gave it credit but once you got the mill spun up in revolutions it was away with a very strong mid range, funny thing is I still miss it’s rev range over a diesel . What Toyota really needs to do is to turbocharge the 2.7 and it would smoke over any of the current lot for power and torque, if Toyota did it, it would out pace there current 4L petrol v6 and still be cheaper on fuel as well.

"Right. We want the Toyota to win, how can we talk ourselves into making that happen?"

I have a 2014. 2x4. Hilux. 2.7. Petrol. Upgraded the suspension, it carried a tonne all day ever day. .. up graded to a Mazda Bt 50 hi rider 3.2. Extra cab Diesel. It was 12 k dearer. Still needed to upgrade suspension. Although rated capacity is well over a tonne it still sagged ..
The Bt is a g rear Ute. The hilux is a great Ute. Fuel the hilux 500km or less from a tank. Bt over 750km to a tank. Loaded unloaded I was getting 900 plus .
I would grab another Bt tomorrow as the extra $100 per month in repayments is saved in fuel and I have a much better ride and comfort .
If I get 250000km out of the Bt without any issues. Like the Lux that is I’m converted. .
I replaced a clutch in the hilux at 95000 and one at 220000

You need to have an ice coffee in your cup holder while conducting your swerve test, if it spills then the vehicle is not fit for purpose.

I know the hilux also comes in a diesel. I would have liked to have seen one in the review.

ok you've got me thinking. I've seen these 3 utes online for sale. A 1992 Mazda Ute with 10, 000km or 2012 Great Wall ute with 120, 000km or 2002 Toyota Hilux ute with over 200, 000km? All for a similar price. Wanting to use for light ute duties and maybe light towing.

Sure the Toyota servicing is cheaper but when you load it up, it uses shitloads of fuel in the long term. This review is absolutely bs as you're going to spend more fuelling it than you would any of the others.

Bought a 2021 Hilux. Death trap in the wet when empty. No reverse camera now as standard base model, also no intermittent wiper option. Auto drinks fuel like there’s no tomorrow. At absolute best 11.7 Lts/100 klms. Can get up to 18 and on freeway speeds. Auto can’t hold top gear. Rough as guts when empty. Need kidney belt for driving empty. And at $35 grand on road with tray and toe bar, not cheap.

What size are the beds in these trucks? I like these aluminium beds but here in Europe we dont have them on pick-ups.

As the Hilux also comes in a diesel model why not test apples against apples and have all diesels all manuals or all autos and really test like for like.

And that's why people bought Falcons

How could you leave out the very popular Triton? An intentional omission to avoid the obvious win over the Hilux perhaps.
