ABOUT:
The First exists for the massive group of Americans whose voices have been ignored. The people who are passionate about American values, aren’t afraid to engage big ideas, and who care about where the country is headed. The people who are conservative in their views but aren’t beholden to any party’s talking points. The independent thinkers who rely on things like the facts, context, and perspective to inform their ideology. The people who, although they form the backbone of this country, have been cast aside by the politicians and the media.

The people whose beliefs and values are increasingly being cancelled. They are why we created The First. You are why we created The First.

We’re the home of free speech, free ideas, and free TV.

Hey Bill, I've been a fan for years. Moved to Portugal eight months ago after selling out of California at a tidy profit. We're retired with a couple pensions and Social Security. Cost of living and stability here is very inviting. Language is difficult to learn, but not impossible. Many English speaking folks here. Great health care. Transportation is wonderful.
All in all, we made a good choice. Working on purchasing a home. We looked at Mexico and Costa Rica and other Caribbean countries, but found them lacking in various categories, mostly food quality. That's why we're here. Food and wine are fantastic and very affordable. Great topic.

I'm an expat currently living in Chonburi Thailand. Bill, your staff should have researched Bangkok a little better. What makes it so unsafe? The only real danger is riding a scooter or crossing a busy street.

Climate in Spain is not HOT...actually a fairly large area with different climate zones...mountains, coastal areas, Madrid and Barcelona are gems.

One of my renters has packed up what he can and Monday morning he and his wife are off to Costa Rica. They have rented a three-bedroom two-bath fully furnished house for $380 per month. He says life in America has gotten too expensive and he's tired of his social security check only making it part way through the month.

You do not need to speak Spanish in Spain, the place is full of expat Brits and Irish and plenty of the population speak English well enough.

One thing to remember, the American Embassy in foreign countries can do little for you if you get in trouble.

Health care will vary.

You think our police are lack luster? One country I went to while employed by Uncle Sam only investigated murders for 7 days. There were just too many occurring daily!

Spain is rated by the WHO as the 7th best health care in the world, the USA is ranked 37th and at 72 I pay 1300€ a year for my health care while in the US I was paying 8, 000 a year with a 10k deductible! Here I have no deductible! English is spoken everywhere and being from Texas we love it here! Our home which is on the market now for 790k € has a property tax of 500 a year, an insurance policy of 500 a year and utility bill of less than 200€ a month?

My top picks would be Ireland, Spain and Norway. Not so many years ago my #1 would’ve been England but no way now.

My wife is from Mexico and we go down there a lot. There are great places to live there and they are not dangerous. We have met dozens of retired Americans in Mexico who live like royalty for 25% of the cost of living in America. Yes, the Mexican government is corrupt but at least they don't make a pretense of being legitimate like they do here in the USA.

I turn off the gd internet and little looks different since the first 1883 homestead here. No rainbows except those put there in the Big Sky by God. Not a blue hair I've seen among the Northern Cheyenne or other residents. I understand bailing if money is YOUR God but my country means more to me than running when every true patriot needs to resist and FIGHT. We'lll stand while cowards flee.
